Northmen rout Pats

-

NORTH SMITHFIELD — For the second time in as many home games, the North Smithfield boys soccer team jumped all over a Valley opponent in the first half to secure another Division II victory.

Days after scoring five unanswered goals in the first half against Mount, the Northmen, behind a pair of goals from senior forward Michael deRonde, raced out to a four-goal advantage at halftime against visiting Davies. deRonde finished with a pair of goals and Bryan Decelles added a pair of assists in a 4-0 victory over the Patriots Friday afternoon.

“In a game that’s a trap game, it’s nice to jumping on them early and we’ve done that the last two games,” North Smithfield coach Eric Korytkowski said. “We don’t have to press because we’re scoring early. We moved the ball really well around the back and wore them out in the first half.”

North Smithfield (10-1 Di- vision II) needed just 90 seconds to put a shot past Davies senior goalie Jonathan Soares (9 saves). Michael Duffy played a cross from the right touchline into the box, Decelles controlled the ball and moved it to deRonde for the game-winning goal.

Senior captain Riley Crozier doubled the lead five minutes into the contest when he looped a header over Soares after a nice cross by Michael Fernandes. A Patriot headed in an Aidan Beauchemin free kick into his own net at 24 minutes and Decelles found deRonde for the final goal with two minutes left in the half.

North Smithfield travels to Prout Monday, while Davies Tech (1-5-3 Division II) hosts West Warwick Monday afternoon.
