CUMBERLAND — Antonio “Tony” Fernandes, 90, of Cumberland passed away on Saturday. He was the husband of Rosemary (Swirk) Fernandes, with whom he just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversar­y.

Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Manuel and Ludivina Fernandes.

Mr. Fernandes served his country proudly in the US Navy during World War II.

In his early days, he was the owner of Village Hardware and Diamond Hill Realty. He was also a partner in Dumont and Fernandes Realty. Mr. Fernandes worked for over 40 years at the former Corning Glass Works — GTE of Central Falls.

Besides his wife he is survived by his children; David Fernandes (Debra); Karen Genereux (Lawrence) and Anthony Paul Fernandes (companion Betsey L. Russell). Six grandchild­ren and three great-grandchild­ren. He was the brother of the late Jose Fernandes and Mary Rose Fernandes.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Aidan Church, 1464 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will be private.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or you may also donate in his memory to a charity of your choice.
