‘There’s always that possibility of hope’

The loving memories of 21-yearold Cory DiSciscio do not disappear and neither does the “hope” the Stoneham man’s cold case will some day be solved, his brother says.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Chief of Police Kevin Molis on Friday vowed to keep the case open, asking witnesses to help break the cold case.

“All the memories that I have, I cherish … even though it’s only been 10 years, it feels like a lifetime,” said Ricky DiSciscio, Cory’s brother.

“I just beg someone to come forward with even the smallest detail of what happened that night,” Ricky DiSciscio told the Herald Friday.

Cory DiSciscio was shot and killed outside Ronan’s Bar in Malden on Sept. 5, 2010. To date, no one has been charged with his death and Malden Police and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office have continued to investigate.

“Every year we have some sort of hope that at least one person would come forward,” said DiSciscio.

“But of course we’re going on 10 years and still nothing, so there’s always that possibility of hope, like I said, for something,” he said.

Three men who were with Cory DiSciscio the night he was killed were arrested in April 2011 on a slew of gun charges and obstruction of justice charges for lying to police about what happened, as previously reported in the Herald.

John Generazio, 22, pleaded guilty to gun and obstruction of justice charges in 2012 and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.

“As 10 years has gone you always wonder and think is this case on the back burner because we never hear anything,” said DiSciscio.

“I just miss being able to pick up the phone and have a conversation or being able to show up and see him,” he said.

DiSciscio described his brother as a funny kid who loved motorcycles, snowboarding and snowmobiling.

“There are so many memories but of course over time they begin to fade a little bit,” said DiSciscio.

He said each year, the family gathers for a barbecue to release butterflies in honor of Cory. This year, he said, the gathering will be small due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Someone once told me that it gets easier each and every day, and I have to honestly say that’s a lie. It’s still the same as it was on Day One, you just live with it,” said DiSciscio.
