4 new coronaviru­s deaths in Mass.

Four more people in Massachuse­tts have died from COVID-19, the state Department of Public Health announced on Sunday as it also reported 698 new cases of the virus.

The four new deaths bring the state total to 48 coronaviru­s deaths.

The four people who died include: a woman in her 90s from Middlesex County with pre-existing conditions; a woman in her 80s from Berkshire County with pre-existing conditions; a woman in her 70s from Norfolk County with unknown pre-existing conditions; and a man in his 80s from Essex County with unknown pre-existing conditions.

The Bay State’s total confirmed cases is now at 4,955 — an increase of 698 new cases from Saturday’s report.

Middlesex County has the most confirmed cases with 981, followed by Suffolk County with 940 confirmed cases. Essex County has 570 cases, Norfolk County has 548 cases, Worcester County has 337 cases, and Plymouth County has 325 cases.

The total number of tests in Massachuse­tts went up to 39,066 on Sunday, an increase of 4,017 from the day before.

More than 135,000 coronaviru­s cases have been confirmed in the U.S., and at least 2,400 people across the country have died from the highly contagious disease. The U.S. leads the world in total confirmed cases.

New York has the most confirmed cases in the U.S. with 59,513 cases. More than 900 people have died in New York from the disease.

More than 700,000 cases have been confirmed around the world, and at least 33,000 people have died from the disease. Italy leads the world in coronaviru­s deaths with 10,779 deaths.

More than 145,000 people around the world have recovered from the virus.
