Abraham has all the moves

BC High star heading to Harvard

-

Danny Abraham shouldn’t be surprised if he sees Andover High School coaches and players at his graduation to make certain he picks up his diploma.

For the second straight year, the

BC High running back opened the season with a monster effort at the expense of the Golden Warriors. Abraham rushed for 261 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries in a 34-7 victory last Friday, giving him two-year totals of 645 yards and eight scores against the Merrimack Valley Conference school.

“I have nothing against the school,” Abraham said, smiling at the notion. “They have a great team and a great head coach. I talked to (former Andover quarterback) E.J. Perry after the game.”

The 384-yard, fourtouchdown effort against Andover in last year’s opener was the beginning of a terrific junior season for the 6-foot, 190-pounder. Abraham ran for 1,301 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging more than 9.0 yards per carry.

“The big thing with Danny is his work ethic,” said BC High coach Jon Bartlett. “He’s in the weight room, he’s on the track every single day, and that’s the way he does everything in life. He’s just the total package.” The total package of athletics and academics put Abraham in a position where he was actively recruited. He opted to stay close to home and selected Harvard. “When I went there, I met the players and they inspired me. I looked up to them for what they’re doing over there,” Abraham said. “It’s a place I feel I can fit in.”

While everyone gushes over Abraham’s performance on the gridiron, he is just as proud of his efforts in the classroom. That was instilled in him by his parents, Godson and Ijeoma.

“Even before I started playing football, they always stressed academics,” Abraham said. “When I was younger, if I didn’t get the right grades, I wouldn’t even be able to step on the field.”

Once Abraham gets on the field, he becomes a defensive coordinator’s nightmare. Against Andover, he ripped off touchdown runs of 69, 92 and 69 yards.

“It’s a great feeling to get into the open, but those runs got set up by a great offensive line,” Abraham said. “I know if I can get into the open, I can kick on the afterburners.”
