Dallas rally keeps Revs winless

-

Maximiliano Urruti scored twice in the second half and FC Dallas rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to earn a 2-1 win over the Revolution last night in Frisco, Texas.

The Revolution (0-20) held a 1-0 into the 71st minute when Urruti beat

Cody Cropper after Cropper charged off his line to cut off the scoring chance. Just six minutes later Urruti put home the game-winner, beating Cropper high to the near post.

The two goals give Urruti three total for FC Dallas (2-0-1) in just two career MLS games, and it gave the Hoops their fifth straight win over the Revs.

Lee Nguyen put the Revolution on the board early with his first goal of the year, a penalty kick in the 10th minute. Nguyen took the kick after Antonio

Mlinar Delamea drew a penalty on FC Dallas’ Cristian Colmán.

The Revolution attempted just four shots overall, 11 fewer than FC Dallas.

In other MLS action yesterday:

Josef Martínez scored twice in the second half, pushing his league-leading total to five, and expansion Atlanta United won its second straight, defeating the visiting Chicago Fire, 4-0.

Dominic Oduro’s goal midway through the second half lifted the Montreal Impact to a 1-1 draw with New York City FC at Yankee Stadium.

Cyle Larin scored twice, including the game winner in the 73rd minute, and host Orlando City won its second straight to open the season, 2-1 over the Philadelphia Union.

The Columbus Crew scored twice off penalty kicks, thanks to Federico

Higuain and Ola Kamara, and Zack Steffen kept host D.C. United winless and scoreless on the season with three saves in a 2-0 win.

from Victor Vazquez and Jozy Altidore to give the visitors a 2-0 win over the Whitecaps. Minnesota United’s Christian Ramirez scored in the 58th minute to give it its first ever lead as a franchise, but Marlon Hairston answered for Colorado one minute later to force a 2-2 draw between the two sides in Denver.

Host Sporting Kansas City was clinging to a 1-0 lead when Soony Saad, outside the box, attempted a shot that went off the defender and was headed wide. San Jose keeper David

Bingham went out to scoop up the spinning ball and it went off his hands and into the goal, and that was the difference in a 2-1 win over the Earthquakes.

Drama in London

is teasing out the decision on his Arsenal future. Some fans will Arsene Wenger only be satisfied if there’s a new manager next season — especially after Arsenal slumped to a fourth loss in five Premier League games.

“I know what I do,” Wenger said after yesterday’s 3-1 loss at West Bromwich Albion that saw another wave of fans’ protests — in the skies over the Hawthorns and in the stands.

But Wenger isn’t saying whether his reign will be extended into a 22nd season, or even if Arsenal wants him to stay.

“I don’t worry,” he said. “I know what I will do in my future so you will soon know.”

The “NO CONTRACT WENGER OUT” banner that trailed from a plane flying over the stadium yesterday made it clear that some fans want the decision taken out of Wenger’s hands.

The latest collapse further jeopardizes the one constant under Wenger: Champions League qualification. Arsenal is five points from the qualification places, having played a game less than fourthplaced Liverpool, after

Craig Dawson headed in two goals from corners for West Brom.

Any hopes of a first title since 2004 faded long ago, with Chelsea surging 19 points ahead of Arsenal with a 2-1 win at Stoke yesterday thanks to a late goal from defender Gary Cahill. Not that any team is close to Chelsea. Tottenham and Manchester City are the closest challengers but are 13 points behind the leaders heading into their games today.

Ronaldo feeds ’em

Cristiano Ronaldo turned into Real Madrid’s playmaker by setting up goals by Karim Benzema and

Casemiro to beat Athletic Bilbao, 2-1, and keep on track to reclaim the Spanish league title.

Madrid, which hasn’t won the league since 2012, leads second-placed Barcelona by five points. Barcelona hosts Valencia today.
