UVM works OT all weekend to top NU

Eve-Audrey Picard scored 1:46 into overtime to give Vermont its second straight extra-time win in a 3-2 triumph over No. 10 Northeaste­rn yesterday in women’s hockey action at Matthews Arena.

Huskies junior McKenna Brand scored her teamleadin­g 17th goal of the season to knot the game at 2-2 in the third period, but Vermont (6-6-4, 4-2-3 Hockey East) had the final say once again as Picard jammed home a loose puck in overtime to give the Catamounts the weekend sweep.

Freshman Matti Hartman also scored for the Huskies (11-6-3, 7-4-2), while sophomore Brittany Bugalski made 23 saves.

Men’s hockey

Worcester St. 0, Salem St. 0 — Josh Reinstein recorded 38 saves as the host Lancers (2-6-2, 1-3-2 MASCAC) tied the Vikings (4-4-1, 3-2-1).

Men’s basketball

Bridgewate­r St. 121, Maine-Augusta 77 — Fawaz Mass and Rocky DeAndrade scored 20 points apiece as the Bears (4-3) trapped the Moose (2-9) in Northfield, Vt.

Quinnipiac 77, Marist 63 — Chaise Daniels scored 17 points with four steals and the Bobcats (2-5, 1-1 MAAC) knocked off the Red Foxes (4-5, 1-1) in Hamden, Conn. In top 25 action: North Carolina 95, Radford 50 — Sophomore Kenny Williams III had 14 of his career-high 19 points in the opening five minutes and the No. 3 Tar Heels (81) routed the Highlander­s (3-5) in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Indiana 83, SE Missouri St. 55 — Robert Johnson had 17 points and seven rebounds and De’Ron Davis added 14 points to help the No. 13 Hoosiers thump the Redhawks (4-4) in Bloomingto­n, Ind.

S. Carolina 70, Fla. Internatio­nal 54 — Duane Notice scored 27 points and P.J. Dozier had 20 as the No. 20 Gamecocks (8-0) caged the Panthers (3-6) in Columbia, S.C.

Women’s basketball

Harvard 59, NJIT 38 — Sydney Skinner scored 14 points and Destiny Nunley corralled 15 rebounds as the Crimson (7-1) leveled the Highlander­s (35) at Lavietes Pavilion.

Fordham 56, Boston College 49 — Mariella Fasoula netted 20 points but the Eagles (2-6) lost to the Rams (6-2) in Bronx, N.Y.

UConn 72, Texas 54 — Napheesa Collier scored 24 points and the No. 2 Huskies (7-0) won their 82nd consecutiv­e game by dropping the No. 14 Longhorns (2-4) in the Jimmy V Classic in Uncasville, Conn.
