3 BIG QUESTIONS FOR PATS

- TEXT BY ADAM KURKJIAN

QB crunch?

After a strong first start against the Cardinals and a near-half of similar solid play, Jimmy Garoppolo suffered what looked like a serious right shoulder injury in the second quarter against the Dolphins. With Garoppolo out and Tom Brady sidelined two more games with his Deflategate suspension, the Pats will have to sign someone to back up rookie Jacoby Brissett or become the temporary starter.

Kicked out?

Stephen Gostkowski is one of the most reliable kickers in all of football, but he nearly cost the Patriots the game yesterday. With the Pats clinging to a 31-24 lead and a chance to ice the game, Gostkowski pushed a 39-yard field goal wide right with 1:08 to play. Although he was perfect in Week 1 against the Cardinals, he's either missed a PAT or chip-shot field goal, normally layups, in two of his last three games dating back to the AFC championship loss to the Broncos,

No rush?

All throughout preseason and for parts of the season opener, the Pats showed off a solid pass rush. But when the team needed it most yesterday, it was non-existent, as the team finished with zero sacks and was credited with just three quarterback hits. Outside of defensive end Chris Long, who had two of those quarterback hits, the lack of an edge rush played a factor in Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill's huge second half.
