David Eigenberg’s career is still on ‘Fire’

- BY JAY BOBBIN

Q: Was David Eigenberg still playing Steve on “Sex and the City” when he started working on “Chicago Fire”? – Melanie Paul, Tacoma, Wash. A: In a manner of speaking. “Sex and the City” ended its original six-season HBO run in 2004, with the movie sequels released in 2008 and 2010, and “Chicago Fire” premiered on NBC in 2012. However, Eigenberg has returned on a recurring basis as Steve Brady on Max’s “Sex and

the City” continuation series “And Just Like That … ,” with the character’s relationship with Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) continuing to endure twists and turns.

The nature of both “Chicago Fire” and “And Just Like That … “has facilitated Eigenberg being able to do both shows, since they don’t necessarily need all cast members present at any given time. That will be even more the case when “Chicago Fire’s” next season begins, since as a cost-containment measure, all of the Dick Wolf-produced NBC shows will be reducing the number of episodes in which each of the principal cast members appear (in most cases). That would seem to portend less screen time on “Chicago Fire” for Eigenberg overall, though he’ll likely be more prominent in many episodes in which he is seen.

Q: I thought Sarah Drew’s movie “How She Caught a Killer” was supposed to be on in August. Why was it delayed? – Deanne Cramer, via e-mail

A: Presumably, Lifetime had a number of reasons for postponing the film, which was moved to mid-september. The “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Everwood” alum has a loyal following, and moving the film closer to the start of the traditional

television season may have been deemed a good decision in terms of also using it as a platform to advertise other Lifetime projects.

Also, Drew had another cable movie debuting around the same time – “Guiding Emily,” which she made for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, and disclosed after the original date for “Killer” (on which Drew also served as an executive producer) was announced – so there likely was discussion of where to put “Killer” in relation to that. As it turned out, there was only one week between the films when they finally were televised.

Q: I heard that Laura Jarrett, the new co-anchor of “Today” on Saturdays, is related to someone famous. If so, who is that? – Ken Davison, Lake Charles, La.

A: She is the daughter of Valerie Jarrett, who was the senior adviser to Barack Obama during his presidency, and is now the CEO of the foundation that bears his name. Laura Jarrett has come into her prominent new position fairly soon after arriving at NBC News last January, hired then as a legal analyst and also as a correspondent covering the Department of Justice and the Supreme Court. She came to that job upon leaving CNN, where she had a similar reporting beat and also served as co-anchor of the weekday news program “Early Start.” (Christine Romans, who had been her fellow anchor on that show, left CNN several months later.) A graduate of Amherst College and Harvard Law School, Jarrett has two children with her husband, whose father is former Canadian politician Bas Balkissoon.
