CABOT – Both the

Bryant Hornets and Lady Hornets came away with a 6A Central road sweep this past Friday in Cabot, with the Lady Hornets opening the night with a 36-31 victory to snap a two-game skid and the Hornets routing the Panthers 67-46, winning five of their last six, including two straight.

For the Lady Hornets (10-9, 3-7 Central), it was all about defense Friday night as they did not allow the

Lady Panthers to score in double figures in any quarter, holding Cabot to just 12-of-42 shooting (29 percent).

In a close game throughout, the Lady Hornets held a 9-8 lead after one quarter and held that one-point lead at intermission, 15-14.

Bryant would get a little separation after three quarters leading 28-23, and held the Lady Panthers at bay in the fourth to pick a big win.

Though Bryant didn’t shoot it well itself at 26

percent, free throws were the difference as the Lady Hornets hit 14 of 23 to Cabot’s 4 of 12.

Bryant junior Parris Atkins led all scorers with 18 points, half of the Lady Hornet output, making it a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Lauren Lain followed with six points, sophomore Emileigh Muse had five, sophomore Natalie Edmonson four and freshman Brilynn Finley three.

In the nightcap, the Hornets (18-4, 9-4) held a 12-11 lead after one quarter before defending better in the second quarter to take a 24-16 lead into the half.

It was the second half in which the Hornet offense got going as they outscored the Panthers 43-30 in the second half to complete the rout.

Senior Camren Hunter led the Hornets with 21 points, shooting an efficient 9 of 13 from the field, while adding 11 rebounds. Junior Kade Ruffner added 16 points and five rebounds, with senior Aiden Adams adding eight, freshman Drake Fowler seven points and five rebounds, sophomore Cory Nichols six points and junior Gabe George five.

The Hornets held the Panthers to 35-percent shooting (15 of 43), while hitting 23 of 54 from the field for 43 percent. Bryant outrebounded Cabot 36-30 and forced 21 Panther turnovers.

The Lady Hornets, fighting for the Central No.

5 seed and a shot at No. 4, played the Little Rock Southwest Lady Gryphons Saturday and take on the Mount St. Mary’s Belles Monday in Little Rock. Both the Bryant boys, clinching the Central No. 3 seed, and girls host Little Rock Southwest on Tuesday before the Lady Hornets host the Central Lady Tigers Thursday in Bryant to close out the regular season. The 6A State Tournament begins in Fayetteville on Tuesday, March 9.
