Pierre-Paul out for rest of season

-

The Giants are going to be without Jason PierrePaul for the rest of the regular season after the defensive end had surgery Wednesday to repair a sports hernia.

The prognosis is for him to be out four to six weeks, which means a season in which he was in the running for Comeback Player of the Year will be over before he recovers.

Pierre-Paul was injured in the second quarter Sunday against the Steelers. He was evaluated by team doctors Monday, and Tuesday went to Philadelphia to see surgeon William C. Meyers — a specialist in core muscle injuries — for a second opinion.

The Giants (8-4) have the best record in the race for an NFC wild- card berth, which would end the franchise’s four-year playoff drought. Taylor ‘done talking’: Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor insisted he’s not affected by questions about his performance or long-term future in Buffalo.

But after closing his weekly news conference, Taylor walked away from the podium and said, “I’m done talking.”

Taylor said he hasn’t paid attention to the criticism because his sole focus is preparing to face the Steelers on Sunday.

“My future in Buffalo is this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s what matters most,” he said. “I don’t feel like talking about my contract right now. We still have games to play.” Fangio denies rift: Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said he intends to return for a third year.

Fangio denied a report saying he might be out after the season because of philosophical differences with coach John Fox, saying there is no friction between them. Asked if he expects to remain the team’s defensive coordinator beyond this year, he said, “I do.”

Fangio said he wasn’t aware of the report until Fox informed him. More Packers woes: The Packers’ banged-up defense took another hit with linebacker Nick Perry ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks with what coach Mike McCarthy called a “significant hand injury.”

Perry, who leads the team with eight sacks, injured the hand last week against the Texans. Extra points: Panthers LB Luke Kuechly returned to practice for the first time since suffering a concussion Nov. 17. … The Browns are planning to start QB Robert Griffin III (shoulder) against the Bengals on Sunday, ESPN reported. … Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) said it would be “pointless” for him to return this season if the team is eliminated from playoff contention.
