Cannot hear in granddaughter’s school
Q. I have volunteered at my granddaughter’s school since she was in kindergarten. She started 4th grade, and my hearing loss has caught up with me. Even the simplest conversation is now a hazard of missed words mixed in with my uncomfortable nods and smiles. Could hearing aids help me in this type of environment?
A. Hearing aids will more than likely provide you with easier, clearer conversations, even in a busy elementary school. Today’s most advanced hearing aids are able to tell the difference between ambient noise and voices. They boost the subtle parts of speech you miss, and do not over amplify background noises.
For very complex places like a busy elementary school, your hearing aids can be programmed with one or two extra settings to heighten their ability to resist ambience noises and focus on voices in front of you even more.
Since you notice the difficulty at your granddaughter’s school, you probably experience some similar issues in other situations where there are groups or background noise. How well do you hear at church, playing bridge, bunco, or bingo, while running errands, or out at a meal? Getting a thorough hearing test with a well-reviewed hearing center is a good next step.
Call us at the Better Hearing Center at 512-282-4327 to schedule a hearing test and hearing aid demonstration. You can then schedule a month long hearing aid trial, too, and find out how much easier and clearer conversations will be at your granddaughter’s school – and elsewhere.
