ACC to close Pinnacle campus this summer as it weighs upgrades to site

Austin Community College’s Pinnacle campus will close this summer as administrators evaluate the site for possible repairs, renovations or expansions, the public college announced Tuesday.

The 10-story building on the Pinnacle campus was built in 1984 and will “require extensive work following a series of assessments that identified areas of concern with the building’s facade, accessibility, and current code requirements,” the college said in a statement.

ACC’s executive vice president of finance and administration, Neil Vickers, said in the statement that “there is no immediate safety concern, but we recognize that this time frame is the best time to move forward.”

According to the statement, officials will also assess options for the property around the Pinnacle site, of which the college owns about 60 acres.

When the campus would reopen remains uncertain because it would depend on the evaluation process, ACC spokeswoman Jessica Vess said.

Students, faculty and staff will be moved to other ACC sites, and classes scheduled for Pinnacle this summer will be rescheduled at those other campuses “with minimal impact to student services and class offerings,” Vickers said.

Meanwhile, ACC plans to open new facilities this summer at its Hays and Round Rock campuses and open a new campus in Leander.
