DEAL, NJ - Demitri P. Karagias, 91, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at his home, with his loving wife, Helen, by his side.

Demitri, born in Neptune, NJ, attended Admiral Farragut Academy and graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1951. As the son of Greek immigrants, Demitri was heavily involved in St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Asbury Park, from a young age. He served on many church committees over the years; his favorite being the church historian for the past 20 years. In 2000, Demitri was honored by the Archbishop, becoming an Archon for his outstandin­g service to the church community.

Growing up on the Jersey shore, Demitri worked in the family business, Criterion Candies, where he enjoyed making salt water taffy at the Third Avenue store on the Asbury Park boardwalk. Most of all, Demitri enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Helen, of 64 years.

After marrying Helen in 1959, they traveled extensivel­y all over the world. Furthermor­e, Demitri cherished his “movie nights “with the boys, was an avid college basketball & football fan, and loved sitting on the deck at the Allenhurst Beach Club.

Demitri is predecease­d by his daughter, Penny, and parents, Louis and Helen.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; his son, Paul; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela & Tony Siciliano; and grandchild­ren, Nicholas, Caitlin & Eli, Kelly, Jimmy, and Phillip; plus 3 great-grandchild­ren.

A visitation will be on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1033 West Park Avenue, Ocean, from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00P.M. A funeral service will be held at 11:00A.M. on Wednesday May 15, 2024 at St. George. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Ocean.
