WYNNE — Margaret “Peggy” Smith
died from various health issues at her home on the morning of April 29, 2022, with her loving, caring husband of more than 70 years holding one hand and her daughter and son holding the other one. She was born on July 21, 1932, in New Brighton, Penn., to Earl and Inez Smith.
She was preceded by her parents; brother, Eugene Smith; and great-grandson, Tatum Caubble.
Peggy is survived by her husband, best friend, and soulmate Bob (Robert E.) Smith, whom she was married to for 70 years and nine months; daughter, Susie Haynes (Ducote); son Zeke (Terry) Smith (Cindy); brother, Gary L. Smith; uncle, Bill Ifft; grandchildren, Whitney Caubble (Brad), Christa Hess (Rodney), and Bobby Palmer (Nalanna); 13 great-grandchildren; one greatgreat-grandson; many nieces; nephews; family and friends.
Putting her husband, children, and grandchildren before herself, Peggy was the glue that held her family together. She was a kind and loving Mother and Grandmother who could be a Mama Bear if she felt her children or grandchildren were in danger or “done wrong.” Peggy had many friends with whom she traveled, cooked, and entertained. She considered and loved each like family.
The Smith family is so grateful for Peggy’s wonderful, loving caregivers Patricia, Alice, and Penny who treated her like she was a member of their families. Their care allowed her to stay in her home. Additionally, the outstanding, caring staff, Deanna, Jackie, Liz, Judy, Adam, John, Dr. Trent Beaton, and many others at Kindred Care Hospice, made Peggy’s last journey comfortable and in the familiar surroundings of home. All these individuals are truly angels, and each has a special place in our hearts.
Peggy’s love and smile will be greatly missed by many. Her joy and caring will live on in our memories.
On Monday, May 2, 2022, a family burial will be held at Cogbill Cemetery with a celebration of Peggy’s life to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Wynne Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Dr. Susan Arnold.
If considering a memorial gift or donation, in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate gifts to Wynne Presbyterian Church, 1735 Poplar, Wynne, Ark. 72396, or a charity/organization of the donor’s choice. Kernodle Funeral Home is in charge. www.kernodlefh.com
