86, of Conway went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 5, 2021. He was born June 4, 1935 in Knoxville, AR to the late Norman K. and Ahnawake Smith. James was also preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Carolyn Smith, three brothers, Stormy, Kenneth, and Leon Smith and one sister, Juanita West.

James is survived by his daughter, Shelley Danner (Dustin), step-sons, Wayne Paladino and Brett Gilliland (Emily) and one step-daughter, Tammy Gilliland Belote (Rick), two grandchild­ren, 12 bonus grandchild­ren, 18 great-grandchild­ren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

James was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served as a police officer at UCA for 32 years. He was a golden glove boxer and was also a referee for many years at Midsouth and Arkansas Golden Gloves and 22 years at Fite Nite at UCA. James was a member of Green Grove Masonic Lodge and enjoyed fishing, camping and yard sales. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his neighbors for their many years of loving care and assistance.

Visitation will be at 1pm, Tuesday, August 10th at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway, with funeral service following at 2pm. Entombment will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
