■ Opposition to a bill introduced in the Arkansas legislature by Representative Few, a Methodist minister, to require the teaching of the Bible in the public schools as a text-book, is expressed in a resolution adopted by about 200 Baptist ministers in the Midwinter Bible School at the First Baptist church.

HUNTSVILLE — Former Governor Orval E. Faubus will get the controversial home he built here, according to his wife, who is suing him for divorce. Mrs. Alta Faubus, his wife for 37 years, said Friday that Faubus would get the large home “because that is his dream house.” The house measures 256 feet from tip to tip. It became controversial when Republicans estimated its value at $250,000 and asked if Faubus, who received $10,000 a year as governor, could afford it. Faubus said his Republican critics overestimated the cost of the structure.

WASHINGTON — Crime and health care — the two issues that most concern Americans, according to public opinion surveys — will be the themes of President Clinton’s State of the Union address tonight, White House aides said Monday. The speech, scheduled for 8 p.m. CST, will be the president’s first State of the Union address since taking office Jan. 20, 1993.

■ The sponsor of legislation to raise the state’s tobacco tax to pay for a trauma-care system and other health-care programs expects to file the bill Monday in the state House of Representatives, the day supporters, including Gov. Mike Beebe and legislative leaders, hold a rally to call on the Legislature to enact the measure.
