CAMDEN — The Ouachita River Improvemen­t Associatio­n, created as a temporary organizati­on at Thursday’s mass meeting, will issue a call for delegates from all interested counties. It is desired to have a delegate from every town and city in the developmen­t area. The purpose is to form a responsibl­e and representa­tive body with officers who may be reached directly by the United States district engineer’s office at Vicksburg, Miss.

Oct. 23, 1965

Little Rock police and special traffic patrolmen were not to be left out in recognizin­g “Razorback Day” in the Capitol City today as part of the occasion honoring Arkansas’ football team. These patrolmen, who will be directing traffic for the game at War Memorial Stadium tonight, will wear arm bands welcoming out- of- towners. There was no doubt about the idea of the bands being in recognitio­n of the nation’s No. 1 football team.

More than 6,000 Arkansans marched down Capitol Avenue to the state Capitol on Monday in an effort to increase awareness of the dangers of drugs, and promote educationa­l efforts to teach students to “Just Say No.” The Red Ribbon Campaign is a week of activities throughout the state and nation aimed at increasing awareness for a drug- free America. The march, which began at the U. S. Post Office and courts building, kicked off a week- long agenda of events, sponsored by Arkansans For a Drug Free Youth, that includes contests, fund- raisers and more.

MAGNOLIA — A leak in a Lion Oil Company pipeline has poured more than 500 gallons of oil onto property on the south side of Magnolia, but officials said it posed no environmen­tal harm. John Warren, vice president of operations for the El Dorado- based company, said temporary repairs were made and cleanup was expected to be finished Saturday. He said permanent repairs will be made. “As far as we know there are no environmen­tal dangers,” he said. The leak, reported Wednesday, occurred in lines transporti­ng oil into Lion Oil lines from other areas. The Environmen­tal Protection Agency and the Arkansas Department of Environmen­tal Quality were notified.
