––––– – –––– CAROLYN PIERCE BAKER of Little Rock died Wednesday, October 21, 2015. She was born March 30, 1934 in Memphis, Tenn., to William and Ethyle Pierce. She attended Southern Methodist University. She and T. Harri Baker married in 1955 and were married for 49 years until Dr. Baker’s death in 2004. They raised two daughters.
Ms. Baker and her family moved to Little Rock in 1969. Ms. Baker was involved in the Pulaski County League of Women Voters; the Arkansas Women’s Political Caucus; the Pulaski County Democratic Committee; the Pulaski County Election Commission; Advocates for Battered Women; and the Little Rock Panel of American Women. Ms. Baker served as Human Relations Coordinator for the Panel of American Women, and implemented the pioneering Green Circle program in Little Rock schools between 1972 and 1975.
In 1975, Ms. Baker returned to school to complete her bachelor’s degree, and obtained a law degree in 1981. Ms. Baker worked as a Deputy Public Defender, Staff Attorney for the Arkansas Public Service Commission, and Staff Attorney for the Arkansas Court of Appeals.
Ms. Baker is survived by Jana Baker Hunter, an educator in Little Rock; Cathy Baker Chatman, an attorney in Sacramento, Calif.; sons- in- law, Richard Hunter and Steve Chatman; grandchildren, Kyle Chatman, Rick Hunter, Sarah Chatman Vercruysse, Pierce Hunter, and Cari Hunter Reed, and their spouses; great- grandchildren, Harrison Hunter, Arthur Chatman, and Lucy Hunter; and a sister, Marilyn Waterhouse.

––––– – –––– KENNETH JAMES “KJ” CARTER, 83, of North Little Rock, went to his heavenly home on October 21, 2015. He was born November 13, 1931 in Conway to the late Otis and Lilian Carter. He was a U. S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War and retired from Missouri Pacific Railroad after 38 years of devoted service. He was a kind, gentle and caring man who loved to golf, garden and spend time with family and friends. Kenneth never met a stranger in his life and was blessed with the gift of gab. He was a long time member of Gardner Memorial United Methodist Church in NLR, which held a special place in his heart and where he had many loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his loved and cherished wife of 61 years, Jamye Lee Carter and brother- in- law, J. L. Bachus ( Nadine) of California. He is survived by daughter, Brenda Burks ( Ronnie) of Maumelle; son, Gary Carter of Maricopa City, Ariz.; grandchildren, Matt Burks ( Elisha) of NLR, Whitney Blankenship ( Greg) of Sherwood and Karlee and Ryan Carter of Stokesdale, N. C.; great- grandchildren, Braxton and Cannon Burks of NLR; brother- in- law, Dr. Gordon Scott Bachus ( Sheryl) of Warrensburg, Mo., and sister- inlaw, Jeannie Reffner ( Jack) of Sherwood.

––––– – –––– JOHN RIDGEWAY “JOHNNY” FLETCHER, 75 of Little Rock, loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at UAMS in Little Rock. Born February 19, 1940 in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of the late William Ridgeway Fletcher and Dorothy ( Comer) Fletcher Cole. John was six months old when he moved with his parents to Bauxite, Ark., a company town where everyone knew one another. He described his childhood as idyllic, playing from dawn to dusk with cherished friends. John graduated from Bauxite High School in 1958.
John began his college career at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in the fall of 1958 where he studied architecture and was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. John earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1963 and upon graduation began a successful architecture career that he enjoyed for over 50 years. He worked for prominent Little Rock architects Bruce Anderson and Nolan Blass before joining Fletcher Miller Dean Architects in the early 1970’ s.
In 1981, John founded The Fletcher Firm Architects in Little Rock, which he owned and managed until his retirement in 2012. The firm was responsible for the design of hundreds of elderly healthcare and rehabilitation facilities throughout the United States for many of the country’s top healthcare providers.
John was an active member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Board. He was appointed by then- Governor David Pryor as a board member to the Arkansas State Board of Architects.
A long- standing supporter of the University of Arkansas, John and his wife recently established the John R. and Judy W. Fletcher Endowed Scholarship, awarded annually to a U of A Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design student with high academic standards and demonstrated academic promise.
John was an avid horseracing fan. He and his wife Judy traveled all over the country watching the ponies run but especially at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs and at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N. Y. He owned several horses over the years and his stable was called Round Table Stable, named for the table where he and his friends laughed and told stories for over 35 years at the Country Club of Little Rock. In addition, John enjoyed playing tennis, hunting, listening to music, watching football and participating in float trips at the Kings River with friends and family.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judy Waddell Fletcher; two daughters, Karen Fletcher Malloy ( Mike) of Atlanta, Ga., and Kristin Fletcher Litzinger ( Steve) of Fayetteville; a son, William Ridgeway Fletcher of Little Rock; one sister, Gail Fletcher Kinney ( Ragon) of Albuquerque, N. M.; seven grandchildren, Fletcher, Ashby and Katie Malloy of Atlanta, Ga., Alex and Ridgeway Fletcher of Little Rock, and William and Grace Litzinger of Fayetteville, Ark.; two nephews, Ragon and Mark Kinney; and trusted business partner and friend, Greg Steinbeck. The family wishes to express appreciation to John’s caregivers, Robert Brikha and James Towns, as well as his devoted physicians.

––––– – –––– MICHAEL PATRICK McBRYDE, 70, of Little Rock, passed away October 19, 2015. He was born in Little Rock to the late Edgar and Mary Fowler McBryde. He served in the United States Marine Corps, active duty July 1 9 6 7 - August 1970 with discharge rank of Captain. Mike served as Platoon Commander, Company Executive Office and Company Commander, with a tour in the Republic of Vietnam from September 1968- October 1969.
Mike was a 1963 graduate of Central High School in Little Rock and a 1967 graduate of Hendrix College in Conway where he earned his B. A. in English Literature. He worked in trust banking for more than 30 years and was a graduate of the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He attended Second Presbyterian Church.

Amber loved her children with her whole heart, she enjoyed riding motorcycles and being outdoors. She graduated from Woodland Hills in 2001.
She is survived by her three children, Brian Lockstead Jr., Caden James Essary and Joshua Zane Essary; mother, Sandra “Dusty” Essary; father, Rodney Wayne Essary; two brothers, George Eddie French Jr. ( Tara) and Shane Harley Essary ( Tasha); godparents, Pat and Johnny Ramsey; nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends who all loved her and will miss her dearly.

––––– – –––– MORRILTON — Sarah M. Ridling, age 90, of Morrilton, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, in Benton, Ark. Mrs. Ridling was born June 18, 1925, in Benton, a daughter to the late Henry Stigall and Elizabeth Martin Stigall. Sarah loved to watch red birds, be outside walking around just soaking up nature, but most of all she loved her kids and grandchildren. They were the light of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter: Betty Massey, one brother and a sister. Mrs. Ridling leaves behind to cherish all of her wonderful memories a daughter, Melva June Hays and husband Tommy of Little Rock; son Lee Roy Ridling and wife Loretta of Lanty along with many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

––––– – –––– ROGERS — Gertraud “Traute” Goolsby, 88, longtime resident of Sherwood and recently of Rogers, passed away Sunday, October 4. She was born on January 6, 1927 to the late Arnulf and Margerete Kaiser Russel in Augen, Germany. After World War II, she left her home to avoid living in Soviet occupied Germany. She worked for several years in various administrative occupations before moving to Italy to work as a governess. While on holiday in Venice, she met US Air Force serviceman Preston “Sam” Goolsby, who was stationed in Italy, and they became life- long soulmates. After raising children and completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, she became a faculty member of the Little Rock School District. She first taught mathematics while lobbying the administration to add German to the foreign language offerings and then taught German at McClellan and Parkview High Schools until her retirement.
Her hobbies and passions for nature, led her to join the Ozark Society. During her 40 year membership, she helped with many other members in establishing and building the Ozark Highlands Trail. She later became a certified Master Gardener and found that the gardens at the Historical Arkansas Museum needed help. While working to grow the gardens and help the museum, she convinced the Master Gardeners to accept the museum as an accredited program.
In addition to her parents and husband of more than 30 years, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harrald Russel. Survivors include a son, Clarence ( Delinda) Goolsby of Gravette, Ark.; a daughter, Leslie Cue’ of Georgia; her sister, Maria Shubert of Germany; brother, Konrad Russel of Germany; two granddaughters, Whitney ( Carlos) Robledo and Charlotte ( Aaron Lipin) Cue’- Lipin of Georgia.

––––– – –––– WEST MEMPHIS — Stan Perry beloved cheerleading coach and gifted and talented coordinator for West Memphis School District was called home by God on October 22, 2015. He coached cheerleading for West Junior High and the Academies of West Memphis for over fifteen years. He was truly loved by all of his cheerleaders. Stan was also a diligent and talented teacher for West Memphis School District for over thirty years. His students still talk about the influences he had on their lives.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Perry and a brother, Ronnie Perry. He is survived by his life partner of 34 years, Rick Roberts, two nieces Blair Perry and Kim Perry of Southaven, Miss.; a great- nephew, Jaxon Perry and a God- daughter Cailen Williams.

––––– – –––– WHITE HALL — Patsy Sue Fox McClure, 82, of White Hall, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in Fort Smith. She was born September 25, 1933, in New Hope, Arkansas, to Delton A. and Alma Howard Fox. Mrs. McClure was a graduate of Amarillo High School and Draughon Business College.
Mrs. McClure retired from the Pine Bluff Arsenal as the Assistant to the Adjutant. She was a faithful member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church. She loved animals, bowling, encouraging others, and devoted her life to her family as a Godly mother and wife.
Mrs. McClure was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Peggy Fox. Survivors include her husband, Bill McClure, whom she married February 14, 1955; two sons, Mike McClure, of Fort Smith and David McClure ( Lisa) of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Sydney Thompson, Spencer McClure, and Matthew McClure; siblings, Martha Mitchell of DeQueen, J. D. Fox of Leroy, Illinois, Bonnie Reich and Danny Fox of Nashville, Larry Joe Fox of McCaskill, and Varana Shoptaw of Mena.
