Rogers man accused of fleeing accident

-

A Rogers man was arrested Wednesday after police said he left an accident where a woman was badly injured.

Lorenzo Hurtado- Perea, 53, of 1801 13th St. in Rogers was arrested Wednesday in connection with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident on Tuesday.

Two people were hospitalized after a wreck reported at 5: 30 a. m. Tuesday at the intersection of Eighth and Walnut streets, according to the Rogers Fire Department. A 32- year- old woman was flown to Washington Regional Medical Center with a head injury, and a 37- year- old man was hospitalized with back pain, according to Rogers Fire Department records.

Dash camera footage from a Rogers officer on patrol shows a Chevrolet Tahoe with a trail of smoke moving north through the intersection just after the light turns green for the officer, who was traveling east, according to information released by the Rogers Police Department.

Off icers interviewed Paulton Mote, the driver of a Pontiac Montana minivan, after the accident. Mote told police he had come up behind the slow- moving Tahoe and tried to stop, but rear- ended it. His wife, Obina Mote, was asleep in the seat behind the driver’s seat, the man told police.

Paulton Mote was cited for careless driving and inadequate insurance in an accident.

Obina Mote was in critical condition Tuesday, according to a police report.

Police found the Tahoe in a parking lot northeast of the intersection with beer cans inside and underneath it. The vehicle was impounded for evidence. The license plate was traced to a Rogers address, police said.

Police arrested Hurtado on Wednesday. His bond was listed as $ 7,500 early Thursday, and he was no longer listed as an inmate by the end of the day.
