RAYMOND EARL BATIE, 86, of Little Rock passed away on July 16th, 2013. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on the 23rd of April, 1927. He served in the Navy during World War II. He retired from Nabisco Brands after over 30 years of service. Raymond was a member of the Teamster Local 878 and supported the Sheriffs’ Boys and Girls Ranches. He enjoyed working in the flower garden and spending time outside. He treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his children, grandchild­ren and his great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vada, his parents William and Doris Batie and his sister Winnie Kemp. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Jimmie; his son Michael (Nancy); his daughters Becky (Marv) Thomas and Mona (Ralph) Koehler; his grandchild­ren Mary (Dax), Sarah, Carrie, Adam, Katie and Anna; his great-grandchild Higgins and a host of extended family and friends, all who will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be on Friday, July 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home with burial following in Forest Hills Memorial Park. ––––– ––––– LINDA (KEMPF) BENNETT, 61, of North Little Rock passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013. She was a retired Registered Nurse with Baptist Health in North Little Rock with 38 years of service and a member of Park Hill Presbyteri­an Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Eddie Mollette; two grandsons, Preston and Parker Mollette; mother, Betty Kempf, all of North Little Rock; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Lois Kempf of St. Louis, Missouri and Stan and Sharon Kempf of Memphis, Tennessee; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and John Chmielewsk­i of North Little Rock and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Kempf and brother, Jerrold Kempf.

––––– ––––– WILLIAM R. “DICK” DAWSON, 85, of Sherwood passed away, Monday, July 15, 2013. He was born to the late William David Dawson and Edna Mae Grosse. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Lois; a grandchild, Jessica Lynn Westerfiel­d.

Dick was a member of Park Hill Presbyteri­an Church. He was a Korean War Veteran, a recipient of the Distinguis­hed Flying Cross. He served 23 years in the U.S. Air Force and had a great passion for flying. Life after the service took him down many paths and including building houses, working on airplanes and volunteeri­ng at his beloved church. Dick was a devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r and friend.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Clayton (Donnie) of El Dorado, Ark., and Debbie Westerfiel­d (Phil) of Omaha, Neb.; four sons, Scott Dawson (Kay) of Germantown, Tenn., Jeff Dawson (Stephanie) of Austin, Texas, Greg Dawson (Monica) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mark Dawson (Melissa) of Denver, Colo.; a sister, Nancy Ernest (John); fifteen grandchild­ren and numerous nieces and nephews.

––––– ––––– COLUMBUS F. EDWARDS, age 91 of Little Rock, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. He was born on December 25, 1921 in Springfiel­d, Arkansas to the late Charles F. Edwards and Mary Edwards He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-seven years, Henrietta Edwards, also three sisters and two brothers.

He served in the United States Navy as a Seabee in the South Pacific during World War II. He learned the love of baking while in the service, going on to be a profession­al baker working as the chief baker at the VA Hospital for twelve years then later owning his own bakeries. He surrendere­d to the ministry in 1969. He pastored churches in both Arkansas and Louisiana. He always had a great love for mission work and was very involved in the Beams Ministry, a ministry that distribute­s Bibles around the world.

Columbus is survived by his daughter, Lori Tynes, son-in-law Bruce, grandson Brian, three sisters, Florene Stacks, Evelyn Pope and Glenna Perry; two brothers, Calvin Edwards and Bennie Edwards; brother–in-law, Pete Perry and many nieces and nephews and many friends.

She married the love of her life in 1954, Bonnie Dale Moore and spent her life making a home for him.

––––– ––––– MARY ANN KENNEDY WORNOCK, 61, a resident of Little Rock, passed away on July 16, 2013. She was a devoted wife to Larry Wornock for 19 years.

She is survived by brothers John Kennedy (Betty), West Fork, Ark.; Albert Kennedy (Vickie), Metairie, La.; sisters-inlaw, Donna Kennedy, Mabelvale, Ark. and Gail Blaylock Kennedy Fayettevil­le, Ark.; and a host of nieces and nephews and grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws.

She was born on February 8, 1952, to the late Robert and Mary Ann Guidos Kennedy. She was preceded in death by brothers Clyde Thomas Kennedy and Robert Kennedy Jr.

Mary Ann attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School and Mount St. Mary’s Academy. After working in California for 14 years, she returned to Little Rock. She recently completed 20 years of service with the State of Arkansas Insurance department, where she served as the assistant to the Deputy Commission­er. Returning to her childhood parish, Mary Ann was a faithful parishione­r of Our Lady of Good Counsel and served as lector.

Possessing many artistic talents, she impressed family and friends with her exquisite beadwork, and she handcrafte­d countless gifts for each of her nieces and nephews and grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws. In her final days, whenever she felt well enough, she labored to complete a crocheted baby blanket for her latest grandniece. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, and was known for continuing the Czech baking traditions of her grandparen­ts. The aromas from her oven brought warm memories from the past to many family gatherings.

The family expresses its gratitude to parishione­rs of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, members of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, employees of the Arkansas Insurance Department, the staff of Arkansas Hospice, and all of their family and friends for their love and support during this difficult time.

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday with Rosary following at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 1321 S. Van Buren. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

ARKADELPHI­A — Dorothy Marie Lillard Newberry, age 90, of Arkadelphi­a, died Monday, July 15, 2013 at Kansas City, Mo. She was the widow of William L. “Bill” Newberry, her husband of almost 60 years.

Dorothy was born January 22, 1923 in Vanndale, Ark., the daughter of Jennings Clifton Lillard and Mary Lillard., and spent her later childhood near Jackson, Tenn. She was valedictor­ian of her high school class at Mercer, Tenn.

Dorothy moved to Little Rock and graduated from Little Rock Junior College. She worked for the E.E. Raines insurance company. After World War II, she married Bill and they moved to Arkadelphi­a, which was his hometown, and they raised two children.

Dorothy was a loving wife and mother, devoted member of the First Methodist Church, past president of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter BB, and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to play bridge, travel, and have get-togethers with friends.

She is survived by two sisters, Lucille Miller of Bald Knob, Ark., and Agnes Sharp of Little Rock; two children: Tom Newberry of Reston, Va. and Janie Jones of Kansas City, and two grandchild­ren, Marissa Newberry and Travis Jones and several nieces and nephews.

Pam is survived by her husband of 40 years, Harlan Beaty & two children, Sean Beaty & Nova Plaisance. Sean’s wife Chrystal & their three children, Ashlee, Michelle & Shelby as well Nova’s husband Jerome & their four children, Autumn, Silas, Rayne & Lily Blue. She is also survived by her mother, Geraldine (Gerry) Chamblee Sullivan (Pennington), her brother, Ernest Carl Sullivan & numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins. She was a loving sister-inlaw, neighbor & friend.

Pam was a long time employee of Arkansas Waffle House & a lover of the outdoors. Her favorite hobbies were working in the yard & playing with her grandbabie­s. ––––– ––––– FORDYCE — Lois Marshall, 91, of Fordyce, went to heaven on July 14th, 2013. She was born on October 22, 1921 to the late John and Mattie Massey near Carthage, Ark. She graduated from Fordyce High School. She married Clifton (Buddy) Marshall who survives her on May 15th, 1943 and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversar­y. She had a sweet, forgiving spirit and loved people.

––––– ––––– HUMNOKE — Nathan Hutson Way, 74, life long resident of Humnoke, passed from this life to heaven on July 14, 2013 in the caring hands of the staff of Baptist Health Medical Center North Little Rock, with his family by his side.

He was born August 6, 1938 to the late Elmer and Elsie Way.

He survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy (Tipton) Way, son Emery Way and wife Gwen of Humnoke, daughter Nancy Crump and husband Michael of Humnoke, three grandchild­ren, Michael Way and wife Amy of Humphrey, Bailey Crump and Reagan Crump of Humnoke, Sister Shirley Munnerlyn and husband Larry of Little Rock. He is also survived by his many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.

As well as serving in the US Army, Hutson was a life long farmer who could fix anything with anything. Hutson served as a fireman for the Humnoke Volunteer Fire Dept for nearly 50 years and Fire Chief for 29 years where he never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need.

Bud had worked as a farmer and then became self-employed as an auctioneer for 40 years before retiring. With the help of family he operated Robinson Auction Company in Pine Bluff. He enjoyed hunting, raising cattle, visiting and fellowship­ping with all the auction patrons. He was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church and a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters. Survivors include his wife, Kay Robinson whom he married on March 26, 1964; sons, Tracy Robinson (Shannon), Eddie Robinson (Dolores) both of White Hall; daughters, Kelly Robinson of Little Rock; Tana Perdue (David) of White Hall; grandchild­ren, Hannah and Hope Robinson, Kessler, Blair and Alexander Perdue.

––––– ––––– WYNNE — Kenneth Witcher Sr., 64, of Wynne, died, Sunday. Born on September 17, 1948, to Charles “Sonny” and Lillian Baty Witcher.

He was a 1966 Graduate of Wynne High School, Broadway College of Real Estate, and Reisch Auction College. In 1972, he started Witcher Auctions, a profession­al full-time auction service, which is now carried on by his sons. He was one of the first licensed auctioneer­s in Arkansas, receiving License No. 46 in 1993, and was also a licensed Real Estate agent. He served on the Wynne School Board from 19922002, and three terms as Cross County Judge, from 2005-2010.

Kenneth conducted hundreds of charity auctions including the Wynne Lions Club auction (nearly forty years); Fair Oaks Fire Department, Cross County Arts Council, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and numerous other school, civic club and hardship benefits. He never turned down an opportunit­y to help someone in need, or to benefit his community. He was a “giver” in the truest sense of the word.

He devoted his life to his God, his family and his country. Since his retirement, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchild­ren, tending his horses, bush-hogging on his tractor, and piddling in his barn (oh, and watching cattle auctions on RFDTV while he rested).

Mr. Witcher was preceded in death by his father, and sister: Barbara Tucker. Kenneth is survived by his wife: Vicki (Lawrence) Witcher, Mother: Lillian Witcher, two sons: Kenneth “Kent” (Stacy) Witcher Jr., Kirk Witcher, brother: Phillip (Vicki) Witcher, all of Wynne, sister: Betty (Glen) Atkins of Jacksonvil­le, seven grandchild­ren.

She married Patrick Lyons in Little Rock, Arkansas, and they had two sons. She owned and operated the Landmark Kennel on Arch Street Pike for many years before moving to the Dallas, Texas, area in 1991.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Eunice Paul and Louise Huff, both of Little Rock. She is survived by her sons, Michael Lyons of Rockwall, Texas, and John Lyons of San Jose California, four grandchild­ren and eight great-grandchild­ren.
