Clinton strikes first, but Burton, Williams answer

LONOKE — The Lonoke Jackrabbit­s had 300 yards of offense in the first half of a 5528 rout of the Clinton Yellowjack­ets on Friday night.

Clinton scored on its first play of the game, but Lonoke (6-4, 4-3 2-4A Conference) took a 35-14 lead at halftime, and most of the first-half yards came from tailback Eric Williams and quarterbac­k D.J. Burton.

“We did a really good job on offense and after that first play, settled down and played some good defense,” Lonoke Coach Doug Bost said. “Their offense is so hard to simulate in practice with the short splits and different motions they use.”

Clinton’s (2-8, 1-6) first play of the game turned into a 75yard touchdown run by Stephen Sappington for a quick 7-0 lead just seconds into the game.

Lonoke responded with a 10-play, 51-yard scoring drive that would be their longest of the night. Williams ended the drive with a 7-yard touchdown run, his first of five scores in the game. The senior back rushed 16 times for 205 yards and five touchdowns. He had 184 yards and four scores in the first half.

Williams had touchdown runs of 7, 12, 17, 57 and 69 yards. A touchdown pass by Clinton 19 seconds before halftime was answered on the next play by Williams’ 57-yarder.

Burton rushed for 108 yards on 10 carries and 2 touchdowns. Burton had 83 yards in the first half, including a 62-yard touchdown.

Williams’ fifth score, followed by a blocked punt returned for a touchdown put Lonoke ahead 55-14 early in the third quarter, starting the running clock.

Sappington finished with 118 yards and 2 touchdowns on 7 carries for the Yellowjack­ets. Fielder Dufrene completed touchdown passes of 37 yards to James Slack and 31 yards to Casey Stacks. NEWPORT 30, SOUTHSIDE BATESVILLE 20

BATESVILLE — Freshman tailback Carl Turner ran 22 times for 127 yards to lead Newport past Southside Batesville.

The Greyhounds (7-3, 5-2 2-4A) also received two passing touchdowns from sophonore quarterbac­k Gunnar Bullard of eight and 11 yards.

The Southerner­s (4-5-1, 2-5) were led by senior tailback Jordan Childress who rushed 35 times for 95 yards and 3 touchdowns.

PRAIRIE GROVE 55, GRAVETTE 0

PRAIRIE GROVE — Prairie Grove forced four first-half turnovers and led 48-0 at halftime to cap its first undefeated regular season since 2001.

Weston Bartholome­w scored on touchdown runs of 3 and 31 yards, J.D. Speed and Jacob Storlie each scored in the second quarter to help the Tigers (9-0, 7-0 1-4A) rush for more than 250 yards in the first half. PEA RIDGE 41, BERRYVILLE 21

BERRYVILLE — Austin Easterling threw three touchdown passes to lead the Blackhawks (9-1, 6-1) past the Bobcats (1-8, 0-7) in a 1-4A Conference game.

Dayton Winn and Braxton Candill accounted for two touchdowns each, and Jonah Torres and Jack Rapp added scores for the Blackhawks.

Deonte Payton finished with 115 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Berryville. Payton ran 57 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and scored from 18 yards out in the third quarter. FARMINGTON 40, LINCOLN 26

LINCOLN — Spencer Boudrey caught a touchdown and ran for another score as the Cardinals (7-3, 4-3) beat the Wolves (5-5, 2-5) in a 1-4A Conference game.

Boudrey’s scores came on a 48-yard run and a 60-yard reception.

Justice Hobbs rushed for two touchdowns on shorts runs, and Josh Belew added another score from 7 yards out. OZARK 41, GENTRY 20

GENTRY — Jonathan McKenzie threw three touchdowns, and Josef Asbeck ran for two scores to lead the Hillbillie­s (8-2, 5-2) to a 1-4A Conference victory over the Pioneers (2-8, 1-6).

McKenzie threw two touchdowns in the first quarter — a 45-yarder to Logan Parks followed by a 48-yard scoring pass to Toby Richard. McKenzie’s third touchdown pass came in the third quarter on an 18-yard pass to Shae Kelly.

Asbeck’s two scores came in the first quarter. Brandon Brokeshoul­der also scored for the Hillbillie­s on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter.

DARDANELLE 45, MENA 34

MENA — Dardanelle (8-2, 5-2) rallied from a halftime deficit to down Mena (55, 4-3) in 4-4A Conference action.

Mena led 22-17 at halftime behind two touchdowns by Malachi McGehee.

John Valentine scored three touchdowns for Mena on runs of 4, 22 and 4 yards. SUBIACO ACADEMY 41, DOVER 0

DOVER — Austin Breed scored four touchdowns to lead Subiaco Academy (3-6, 1-5) past Dover (1-8, 1-6) in a 44A Conference game.

Julius Lewis scored Subiaco Academy’s other two touchdowns. BOONEVILLE 35, MAUMELLE 16

BOONEVILLE — Jacob Jones returned a kick off 75 yards for one touchdown and Matt Berry returned an intercepti­on for another touchdown as Booneville posted a victory over Maumelle in a 44A Conference game.

The Bearcats (7-3, 6-1) also saw contributi­ons from Cody Harrell, who rushed for two touchdowns, and Bryson May, who added another scoring run.

Maumelle fell to 4-5 overall and 4-3 in the 4-4A. POTTSVILLE 48, WALDRON 6

POTTSVILLE — Michael Perry recovered a fumble for one of his three touchdowns to help lead Pottsville (91, 6-1 4-4A Conference) past Waldron (0-10, 0-7.

Perry picked up a Waldron fumble and ran 2 yards for a first-quarter touchdown.

Tyler Weaver, Cory Campbell and Hunter Daniel also scored touchdowns for Pottsville. Alonzo Torres kicked a field goal.

Waldron’s score came in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard run by Jonah Cull.

MONTICELLO 38, DEWITT 19

DEWITT — Senior running back Diante Barnhill rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns in Monticello’s victory over DeWitt in an 8-4A Conference game.

Barnhill set the tone early with a 56yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He added a 57-yard scoring run in the second quarter and a 15-yard rushing touchdown in the third for the Billies (5-5, 4-3).

Blake Murdock led the way for DeWitt, rushing for 170 yards and 2 touchdowns on 29 carries. He scored on a 9-yard run in the third quarter and a 2-yard run in the second for the Dragons (1-8, 1-6).
