Rebels clinch league title

The Quartz Hill baseball team clinched the Golden League title outright, its seventh consecutiv­e league championsh­ip, with a 20-0 win in five innings at Lancaster High on Wednesday. Quartz Hill seized control of the regular-season finale with seven runs in the top of the first inning and outhit Lancaster 18-4. Tyler Christner and Andrew Allanson both drove in three runs apiece for the Rebels. Christner was 1-for-1 with a run scored and Allanson was 2-for-2 with three runs, a walk, a double and a home run.

LANCASTER — The Quartz Hill baseball team clinched the Golden League title outright, its seventh consecutiv­e league championsh­ip, with a 20-0 win in five innings at Lancaster High on Wednesday.

Quartz Hill seized control of the regular-season finale with seven runs in the top of the first inning and outhit Lancaster 18-4.

Tyler Christner and Andrew Allanson both drove in three runs apiece for the Rebels. Christner was 1-for-1 with a run scored and Allanson was 2-for-2 with three runs, a walk, a double and a home run.

Nathan Hernandez, Ryan Sanders and Zack Johnson all finished with two RBIs apiece.

Hernandez was 2-for-3 with a run and a double, Sanders was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a double and Johnson was 2-for-3 with two runs.

Quartz Hill leadoff batter Noah Manzano was 2-for-2 with two runs, a double and a walk.

Quartz Hill used two pitchers to combine for the shutout.

Starting pitcher Sanders struck out eight in four innings, giving up three hits and four walks and reliever Ryan Flannery gave up one hit in one inning, striking out two.

Lancaster senior Daniel Moreno had two hits for the Eagles.

Knight 12, Palmdale 2

PALMDALE — The Knight baseball team defeated Palmdale 12-2 in a six inning Golden League game on Wednesday at Knight High.

Knight jumped out two a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Knight junior Cody Turner led the Hawks with three RBIs, finishing 3-for3 with two runs, a sacrifice fly and three doubles, including one to lead off the first.

Senior Demetrius Freeman hit a two-run home run in the first and finished with two runs scored.

Turner and Julian Herrera both drove in runs in a four-run fourth inning.

Turner also earned the win on the mound, striking out 13 in five innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.

Knight finished with 15 hits, including two hits by Brian Dorame, Herrera, John Ojuich and Eduardo Morales.

Eastside 11, Antelope Valley 10

LANCASTER — The Eastside baseball team won a Golden League game at Antelope Valley High on Wednesday, 11-10.

Senior Jared Rojas was 3-for-5 with a triple and double for the Lions (9-16, 4-10), while senior Michael Khair was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and senior AJ Velasquez was 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Eastside pitcher Ethan Foley struck out six in five innings to earn the victory, giving up four runs.
