Children’s Grief nonprofit welcomes $10K grant
Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico has received a $10,000 grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico as part of the insurance company’s Healthy Kids Healthy Families initiative, according to a news release.
This grant will support the center’s bereavement programs for children, youth and families, which support children and families after the death of a loved one, the release said.
“Our partnership … plays an important role in allowing the Children’s Grief Center’s important programs to be available at no cost to the children and families that come to us after a death,” said Jorie Weyer, Children’s Grief Center development and outreach associate, in a statement.
“A … key priority for our community investments is to increase access to mental health care and resources for New Mexicans,” said Janice Torrez, BCBSNM president, in a statement. “The grief support and workshops provided by the Children’s Grief Center help to improve behavioral health outcomes for bereaved children and families.”
The Children’s Grief Center was established in 2001 and aims to provide young people and their families with a safe and supportive environment where they can share feelings and experience while grieving a death. Groups and workshops are provided for free all year, the release said.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico is one of the largest health insurance providers in the state. Its Healthy Kids Healthy Families grant initiative aims to improve the health of children and their families across the state, the release said.
