Ramona Chavez passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at the age of 94. She had been a lifelong resident of Albuquerqu­e, NM and a member of San Felipe de Neri Church in Old Town.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Angelica Gonzalez; husband, John J. Chavez; sister, Rose Gonzalez; half-sisters, Josie Gonzalez and Valentina Crespin; and her son, Valentino Chavez. She is survived by daughters, Gloria Robinson and husband, Gerald, and Linda Whittingto­n and husband, Juan Candelaria; grandson, John Martinez and wife, Jeanette; granddaugh­ter, Patricia Whittingto­n; grandson, Samuel Chavez; greatgrand­daughter, Gemma Rose Martinez; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ramona had been a member of the San Felipe Bereavemen­t Committee and volunteere­d at the church’s museum. Following her early retirement from the Bell Corporatio­n, she served as a foster grandparen­t for 19 years at La Luz and Los Duranes Elementary Schools. She had been a charter member of the Albuquerqu­e Senior Citizens Center at North 4th and served as a council member. She volunteere­d with the senior center for over 25 years.

Ramona was a member of Los Guadalupan­os, St. Francis Xavier Church, in the South Broadway area throughout her life.

Her funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 20 at San Felipe de Neri Church, in Old Town, beginning with a Rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. She will be buried in Our Lady of Guadalupe Mausoleum in Mount Calvary Cemetery. A bereavemen­t reception will not be held due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
