Karl D. Swartz
Karl Dean
Swartz, 82, a former resident of Albuquerque, died April 3, 2021, after a long difficult battle with Parkinson’s disease.
He was born September 1, 1938, in Cleveland, OH.
Karl earned his
BS and MS degrees in physics from Case Western Reserve University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity; and his PhD in physics from the University of Illinois. His working career included jobs at many defense contractors around the country, stretching from California to Alabama. He retired in 2000.
Karl was a huge sports fan and diehard supporter of the Browns, Indians, Cavs, and Fighting Illini – win or lose. If he kept track of the final count, he never told anyone! His heroes were Lebron and Tiger. He was a dedicated bridge player and very proud of his Life Master status. His many friends include members of the Duke City Bridge Club, where he played for years. He loved all things musical, classical to pops. Karl enjoyed piano playing, and his rich baritone voice enabled him to participate in music venues wherever he lived. In Albuquerque, he sang in the symphony chorus and in other on-stage productions. Karl was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elizabeth Swartz of Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Linda Dell Baltzley of Las Cruces; and sister, Phyllis Wilson, of Albuquerque. Also left behind are his five children, Deborah, Larry, Denise, Kersten, Megan, and their families: 10 grandchildren and one great grandson. A dear friend, Darwin Anderson of Albuquerque, survives him as well, as do close fraternity brothers and many cousins.
Per his wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
