Strike up the band, and peek inside the White House

AT BOOKWORKS: Sage and Jared’s Happy Gland Band will perform at 3 p.m. today. Stephanie Valencia will talk about “West Wingers: Stories for the Dream Chasers, Change Makers, and Hope Creators Inside the Obama White House” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20.

AT PAGE ONE: Dennis Herrick will talk about “Esteban: the African Slave Who Explored America” at 3 p.m. today. When pueblo Indians say, “The first white man our people saw was a black man,” they are referring to Esteban, who came to New Mexico in 1539.

Connie Willis and Melinda Snodgrass will do a double signing 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, with Willis speaking on her books “Crosstalk” and “The Best of Connie Willis” and Snodgrass speaking on the new book in her “Imperials” saga, “The Hidden World.”

AT GARCIA STREET BOOKS: Marjorie Herrera Lewis will discuss her new book “When the Men Were Gone” at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24. Lewis brings a fictionalized account of the extraordinary true story of Tylene Wilson, the World War II era teacher who stepped up to coach the local high school football team when no one else would, and in so doing held together an entire community.
