Hazel Hartman passed from this life on April 2,

2018 at age 77 in Mesa, AZ. Hazel, often known as “Punkie,” was born in Farmington, NM to Troy Stolworthy Washburn and Aurea Montalvo. Hazel attended Gallup High, where she was a cheerleade­r and member of National Honor Society. She continued her education at Brigham Young University. Hazel enjoyed being a lifelong learner of literature and scriptures. She had a great talent for quilting and enjoyed sharing her skills with many new to the art.

Hazel married her high school sweetheart, Joe, in the St. George LDS Temple in 1958. She was a steadfast member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served diligently in many callings. Joe and Hazel lived more than 50 years in Albuquerqu­e, using their home as a place of welcome and refuge to many in need.

Hazel was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandma and friend. Her greatest joy was teaching her family to love the Gospel, and the Savior Jesus Christ, through service. She took delight in seeing her children and grandchild­ren follow in the Savior’s footsteps.

Hazel is survived by her five children, Valorie (Danny), Michelle (Chris), Brent (Jennifer), Andrew (Tiffany), and Jenny (Collin). Hazel and Joe adored their 10 grandchild­ren and one great-grandchild.

Hazel is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe, her parents, and her sister, Irene Greenmun. Services will be Monday, April 16, 2018 at the LDS Chapel at 6655 E Preston Street, Mesa, AZ 85215. The viewing will be at 10 am, service at 11 am and a brief graveside service at 12:45 at the City of Mesa Cemetery.
