HIP-HOP, HOLIDAYS

SonReal returns to ABQ as Twinkle Light Parade gears up

-

It’s been a few years since SonReal was in Albuquerque.

The hip-hop artist has spent the better part of a decade touring the world making a name for himself in music.

He caught the attention of Jon Bellion a few years ago and snagged the opening spot on Bellion’s tour.

“I didn’t even know Jon before that,” he says. “I got bullied onto that tour. They told Jon that I am going to be big and he said yes. One of his requirements was that I was to have a tour bus. It was a big deal to me.”

So Bellion took a chance on SonReal, born Aaron Hoffman. It gave him the chance for his profile to rise — and he made a friend.

“Jon would hang out with me on the bus,” he says. “Our entire teams got along really well. It was a special tour.”

Now SonReal is on the road in support of his album, “One Long Dream.” He will perform at the Launchpad on Thursday, Dec. 7. To read more on his journey with the album, see Page 21.

The holiday season has officially begun. This weekend, the annual Twinkle Light Parade will take place. Staff writer Rozanna M. Martinez has the route details now that Albuquerque Rapid Transit construction is done. To read more, see Page 12.

Martinez also has the latest on “Humpback Whales 3-D,” the new film at the Lockheed Martin DynaTheater. To read more, see Page 19.

And for opera fans, the Santa Fe Opera presents “Shoes for the Santo Niño” this weekend at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. And the show heads to Santa Fe next weekend. To read more, see Page 13.

Make sure to check out Pages 4 and 6 for reviews on “The Man Who Invented Christmas” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”
