Texas extends winning streak to 10

Brewers slosh past Cubs at Wrigley; Rockies club Cincinnati

DETROIT — Mike Napoli and Joey Gallo hit homers, giving the Texas Rangers enough offense to help them hold on for a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night, their 10th straight victory.

Nick Martinez (1-2) gave up one unearned run and four hits over five innings, ending an 11-start winless streak that dated to Aug. 5, 2015.

Matt Bush earned his fifth save in six chances, but it didn’t come easy. He struck out Alex Avila with runners on the corners and two outs after shortstop Elvis Andrus’ throwing error allowed the Tigers to pull within two runs.

BREWERS 6, CUBS 3: In Chicago, Jett Bandy and Domingo Santana hit two-run singles, helping surging Milwaukee to a rain-interrupte­d victory over Chicago.

On an afternoon with a 46-degree temperatur­e and 37 wind chill at the start, Bandy walked and scored on Orlando Arcia’s basesloade­d infield single for a 4-3 lead in the fifth. The game was delayed 1 hour, 59 minutes in the top of the sixth, and Santana boosted the lead with his single just after the delay.

ROCKIES 12, REDS 6: In Cincinnati, Alexi Amarista hit a three-run homer and a runscoring single during Colorado’s eight-run rally as the Rockies extended the best start in their history with a 12-6 victory over Cincinnati.

The Rockies lead the NL in wins at 27-16, their best mark through 43 games.

Amarista’s three-run shot off Lisalverto Bonilla (0-2) sparked the big sixth-inning rally. Nolan Arenado had a two-run homer off Wandy Peralta. Amarista kept it going with an RBI single. DODGERS 7, MARLINS 2: In Los Angeles, Dodgers pitcher Alex Wood improved to

5-0 by pitching 7⅓ shutout innings agianst Miami.

INDIANS 5, ASTROS 3: In Houston, Edwin Encarnacio­n hit a two-run homer, and Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall had solo shots as Cleveland beat Houston.

Trevor Bauer (4-4) gave up three runs and struck out a season-high nine in 5⅔ innings to improve to 7-0 in seven career starts against the Astros.

METS 3, ANGELS 0: In New York, Jacob deGrom dominated until dealing with discomfort in his throwing hand in the seventh, then escaped a no-out, bases-loaded jam that inning to help New York beat Los Angeles and snap a seven-game losing streak.

The Mets avoided their first eight-game skid since losing 11 straight in 2004.

After multiple visits by Mets coaches and a trainer, DeGrom survived the seventh with a strikeout, a juggling catch by shortstop Jose Reyes and Cameron Maybin’s fly ball.

TWINS 4, ROYALS 3: In Minneapoli­s, pinch hitter Kennys Vargas launched a tying, two-run homer in the ninth inning and Jorge Polanco hit a sacrifice fly in the

10th to lift Minnesota past Kansas City.

Polanco lofted a soft liner to left field and Joe Mauer beat Alex Gordon’s throw to the plate.

BRAVES 7, NATIONALS 4: In Atlanta, Nick Markakis hit a go-ahead single in the eighth inning and Kurt Suzuki added a two-run homer to give Atlanta a win over Washington.

With one out in the eighth, Enny Romero (2-2) walked Brandon Phillips, who then stole second base. Markakis lined a single and Phillips scored on a head-first slide.

RAYS 5, YANKEES 4: In St. Petersburg, Fla., Evan Longoria got four hits, including a tie-breaking single in the eighth inning, that sent the Tampa Bay over New York.

Longoria began the game in an 0-for-12 rut. His go-ahead hit came with two outs after Tyler Clippard (0-2) walked two and struck out a pair. Alex Colome got three outs to pick up his 11th save. PHILLIES 7, PIRATES 2: In Pittsburgh, Jeremy Hellickson (5-1) settled down quickly after a two-run first inning, retiring 16 of the final 17 batters he faced, as Philadelph­ia pulled away from Pittsburgh. ORIOLES 5, BLUE JAYS 3 (10): In Baltimore, Welington Castillo hit a pair of homers, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the 10th as Baltimore beat Toronto.

GIANTS 6, CARDINALS 5: In St. Louis, Eduardo Nunez doubled in two runs in the ninth inning as San Francisco rallied to defeat St. Louis. WHITE SOX 2, MARINERS 1: In Seattle, Melky Cabrera doubled in the go-ahead run with two outs in the top of the 10th to lift Chicago past Seattle. ATHLETICS 3, RED SOX 2 (10): In Oakland, Calif., Mark Canha hit a leadoff homer in the 10th as Oakland beat Boston. DIAMONDBAC­KS 10, PADRES 1: In San Diego, the Diamondbac­ks scored eight runs in the first inning en route to a rout.
