La Cumbre Brewing releasing IPA, holding art show

- BY ROZANNA M. MARTINEZ

Appreciating local art and enjoying the release of a popular IPA are a couple things you can take part in this weekend at La Cumbre Brewing Co.

La Cumbre will release its Father Nelson double India pale ale at noon today. It will be available in bottles and on tap. An art show will follow on Saturday, April 8.

“Father Nelson is a really big IPA,” said Cory Campbell, La Cumbre marketing director. “… It’s just a huge American-style IPA.”

According to La Cumbre’s tasting notes, Father Nelson is “irresponsible, offensive, repugnant, blasphemous and downright creepy.”

“Reaching to the outer expanses of what is possible with hops and alcohol, we have created a beer that is literally dripping in hop oils,” the notes say.

Today’s release will be followed by an art show Saturday evening. There will be more than 15 artists from Albuquerque and surrounding areas. There will be two food trucks and music, and Pojoaque’s Rising Son will be selling its gourmet carne seca. Fixed and Free Bike Shop will be on hand to do bicycle repairs for $10.

The artwork will mainly consist of paintings, but there also might be some mixed media, according to Campbell.

“We’re basically going to hang all of their stuff all around our taproom,” he said. “All the artists will be here that night hanging out so they can answer questions or whatever.”

Each art piece also will have contact information for the artist if he or she is unable to attend the event. The artwork will hang in La Cumbre for a while.

“We will keep them around for a bit, so if there’s something you like and you want to come back and look at it the next week or whatever, it will still be up,” Campbell said.
