Kate Voegele is glad to be on the road again. After a two-year hiatus from regular touring, the songwriter is back in the saddle.

“It’s been awesome so far,” she says during an interview while on her way to Jacksonville, Fla. “It’s so much fun to be on the road. I love waking up in a new city and sharing this music.”

Voegele is talking about her latest EP, “Wild Card,” which was released in November. The new music is her first since 2011’s “Gravity Happens.”

“It has been a long time since I wrote some new music,” she says. “I was planning on doing a full-length album, but I thought all these songs went together really well.”

Voegele has been making music since she was 15. Now at 28, she’s accomplished in both music and acting.

“My music is always evolving and I’m more comfortable with writing and arrangements,” she says. “I think my writing has also become more vulnerable, which makes it more relatable to others.”

Voegele’s new outlook on music is due to her move from Los Angeles to Nashville, Tenn. It’s there where she has begun to feel more confident in all aspects.

“I have the opportunity each day to work with amazing writers who challenge me,” she says. “I feel like I grow with each task I accomplish and that was important for me. I wouldn’t grow ever if I were the best and stayed in the same place. The move to Nashville has helped me find the spark again.”

Though music always has been at the forefront for Voegele, she did take a little detour in 2008 when she became part of the TV series “One Tree Hill.” What started out as a guest appearance for one episode led to a recurring role that lasted for four years.

“I would do acting again if the right role came along,” she says. “With ‘ One Tree Hill,’ I was around phenomenal actors and I got to play my music for millions of viewers. That was a perfect situation for me.”
