• The La Salle Institute hockey team continues its annual Cadets for Vets hockey game tradition at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, hosting the Capital Region Jets, at the Frear Park Ice Rink in Troy. The event raises money for the Albany Housing Coalition, which aids homeless veterans, and has raised more than $50,0000 for the coalition since 2018.
• Capital District YMCA has launched its annual campaign to raise $2 million this year, which will fund the core programming of its branches. Scholarships based on financial need for child care, memberships and summer camp programs receive most of the funding, but other Y programs also benefit. Funds will also help Circle of Champs, serving families with a child facing a life-threatening illness. Donations can be made online at www.cdymca.org/donate.
• Fort Ticonderoga achieved its fundraising goal to conserve an oil-on-canvas painting: the full-length portrait of Frances (Fanny) Montresor-buchanan-allen-penniman (c.1771) that was acquired in 1910. The painting needs professional conservation prior to display in 2025 as part of the upcoming annually rotating exhibition. The conservation work is made possible through individual donors in a #Givingtuesday campaign and a Greater Hudson Heritage Network grant.
• The Underground Railroad Education Center is participating in the Target Circle Community Giving Program, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s commitment to fostering education, awareness and community engagement. The Target Circle Community Giving Program is designed to support and uplift local nonprofits, bringing together businesses, customers and community organizations to create a positive impact. • U.S. Rep. Paul D. Tonko said $731,104 in federal National Endowment for the Humanities challenge grants were awarded to support the Albany County Historical Association ($481,104) to construct an education center through the restoration of two buildings at the Ten Broeck Mansion site. The Underground Railroad History Project of the Capital Region will receive $250,000 for its new 13,000-square-foot interpretive center.
• Fidelis Care distributed $315,000 in grant funding to 20 groups dedicated to combating food insecurity and alleviating hunger across the state.
