Area teams easily defeat Section IX foes in state lacrosse subregiona­ls

Burnt Hills-ballston Lake coasted past Section IX champion Saugerties, 20-9, on Wednesday afternoon in a state Class C subregiona­l girls’ lacrosse playoff contest at Rondout Valley High School.

MK Lescault scored five firsthalf goals to lead the Spartans to a commanding 14-2 halftime advantage.

Lescault finished with seven goals and an assist.

Burnt Hills extended the margin to 18-3 early in the second-half and eased to the finish with the victory.

Grace Tullock added four goals and Ella Blesi and Caroline Kogut each had three goals for the Spartans. Maddi Morrison and Gabbi Donahue combined to make five saves for Burnt Hills.

Lia Macdougall led Saugerties with three goals.

The Spartans move on to the State Regional round to take on Section I’s Tappan Zee on Saturday, 3 p.m., at Hendrick Hudson

High School in Montrose.

More girls’ lacrosse: Led by Macey Koval, Schuylervi­lle pulled away in the second half to beat James I. O’neill of Section IX 15-7 in the Class D subregiona­ls. The Black Horses trailed by a goal late in the first half, but Koval scored twice in the final 27 seconds to give Schuylervi­lle a 4-3 lead at the half. She kept rolling with a goal 14 seconds into the second half and tacked on three more to complete a run of seven straight goals that gave Schuylervi­lle an 8-5 lead with 14 minutes left in the game. The Black Horses outscored O’neil 10-2 over a 20 minute stretch in the second half. Schuylervi­lle (9-4) moves to face Bronxville (Section I) in the regional final on Saturday in Montrose.
