Johnson failing to make effective use of critical resources

BORIS Johnson would perhaps wish to be seen as being in the mould of Sir Winston Churchill. But I doubt if his, at times, ruthless predecessor would have handed out steel helmets to the elderly while much of the infantry had yet to be issued with these.

We see the vaccine being given to those whose only contact with the general population is via their carers, who are themselves being vaccinated. At the same time medical staff treating the infected are having to work in cumbersome full PPE and in many cases to be absent for several days of self- isolation.

Thus we are failing to make most effective use of the two critical resources of the moment.

IS it just me who gets irritated with continuing to hear somewhat discredited former Prime Minister Tony Blair pontificating on everything under the sun, from Covid vaccines to Brexit? Isn’t it about time this know- itall disappeared into the sunset instead of sticking his nose in on every topic that seems to arise?

THE situation we are in, and the restrictive and repeated lockdowns, are not caused by those following the rules, but rather by those that either through thoughtlessness, ignorance or selfishness, are failing to abide by them. They themselves may well not get ill, but their actions area direct contribution to the many deaths this country is suffering and ensuring the financially damaging lock downs they complain about have to continue. They have a lotto account for.

ANOTHER lockdown ( house arrest) – are we going to witness the same level of hypocrisy as last time where colleagues of Boris Johnson are exempt?

THE role of Director of Public Prosecutions is not the same as the role Sir Keir Starmer is in, nor the one he seeks to take over. He passed his ‘ use by’ date ages ago on Brexit, he’s passed his ‘ sell by’ date on Covid- 19, and he’ll reach the bottom of the barrel when he uses “I told you so”.

PREVIOUS letters have criticised clergy for interfering in politics when they should be supporting parishioners 24/ 7. Canon Michael Storey ( The Yorkshire Post, January 7) fully illustrates my point.
