Rams come back from bad start to clinch win
Bridgend 27 Rams 31
RAMS continued their pre-season preparations with victory at Welsh Premiership side Bridgend.
Despite falling 3-0 behind early on, the visitors enjoyed the better of the first 40 minutes with fly-half Alex Seers in fine form.
Tries from Niall Kidd, Ross Crame, Ellis Jones and Andrew Humberstone put Rams 26-10 ahead at the interval.
Bridgend rallied after the restart, but a solitary score from new signing Rhys Tudor was just about enough to clinch a 31-27 victory.
“Bridgend is a great rugby club and for us it was an honour to play at Brewery Field against a quality side,” said Rams head coach Seb Reynolds.
“I was pleased with the result but there is still a lot of hard work to do before we take on Canterbury at home on September 1.”
REDINGENSIANS have changed their name to Rams RFC for the coming season.
The club was founded as Old Redingensians in 1924 by former pupils of Reading School before dropping the ‘Old’ in 1969 after opening to all-comers.
The nickname ‘Rams’ was originally adopted eight years ago to reflect the club’s connection to Reading, the animal featuring in the town’s coat of arms and representative of its historic links with the wool trade.
“As an ex-pupil of Reading School, exfirst team captain and current chairman, this was a decision that I agonised long and hard over,” said Rams chief Andy Lynch. “Apart from the fact that the Rams brand works very well, and it is much easier for youngsters to say than Redingensians, the clincher for me was at the end of my father’s funeral on February 20 this year.
“The celebrant could not pronounce the name of our club when inviting attendees back for the wake.
“I think my Dad was telling me something that day and my mind was finally made up.”
