New sports centre opens in Ryeish Green

-

PEOPLE in the borough face a fitter future thanks to a series of leisure projects.

This week sees the opening of the Ryeish Green Sports

Hub following a £4million cash injection from Wokingham Borough Council.

The new centre includes a state-of-the-art 45 station gym for members, a studio, four-court sports hall, changing rooms, as well as a full-size 3G football pitch, and grass pitches.

Improvements at Ryeish Green have been funded by developer contributions.

Cllr Norman Jorgensen, executive member for environment, leisure and libraries, said: “I am delighted we have opened an improved, modern leisure facility in the western part of Wokingham Borough as it will provide many more opportunities for people to have access to first class leisure facilities and help to ensure we can meet the increased need as more people move to the area.

“We are proud to be investing in leisure facilities across the borough to help ensure our residents can live healthy and active lives. And there is more to come with new leisure centre at Bulmershe well underway after we received planning permission earlier this year, and a new leisure hub being built at Carnival from 2020.”

The centre is open weekdays from 7.30am to 10pm, on Saturday from 8am to 6pm and on Sunday from 8am to 8pm.
