Double gold for wonderful Wilson

-

HELEN WILSON had twice the reason to be happy at the Westfield Health British Transplant Games.

She won gold in discus, shot and javelin, beat the qualifying distances for next year’s event and also doubled her archery score.

A delighted Helen said: “There were a record number of competitors and supporters this year which was great to see and the volunteers who were helping did a fantastic job.

“The Games would not happen without the support of Westfield Health and the other sponsors and so we are very grateful to them for giving us this opportunity to show what can be done following severe and life threatening illness.

“It is still vitally important for people to join the organ donor register and to have the conversation with their families so that their wishes about being a donor are known.”

Helen, from Wokingham, underwent a life-saving kidney and liver transplant and has overcome poor health at the Westfield Health British Transplant Games which are designed to promote the benefits of transplant operation and encourage people to join the NHS Organ Donation Register.

Added Helen: “At the opening ceremony we broke the world record for the number of donor recipients in one place at the same time and smashed the previous record of 438 with 723.

“Without donor families none of us would be here and we are incredibly grateful for the second – or in my case third – chance at life.

“A lot of donor family members attend the Games and it is inspiring to be able to meet and chat with them.

“I have had a fantastic time at the 2018 Westfield Health British Transplant Games and am really looking forward to next year.”
