Christmas revisited
The same old ringing of the tills in shop and supermarket.
The same old sound of Christmas cards landing on the carpet.
The same old plastic credit
cards piling up the bills. The same old food, the same old wine, the old headache pills.
The same old films in black and white repeated on the telly.
The same old pies, the same old cake, the same old wobbly jelly.
The same old nodding off in your
favourite chair.
The same old pong of aftershave
lingering in the air.
The same old drooping Christmas
tree, tinsel and glass baubles. The same old sentimental song that
Crosby always warbles. The same old Christmas carollers
howling like tom cats.
The same old Christmas crackers, the
same old paper hats.
The same old bunch of mistletoe
hanging from the light.
The same old tin of liver salts discreetly
out of sight.
The same old weary feeling as you
collapse into your bed.
The same old dread of what it has cost, spinning round your head.
The same old New Year wishes we
hope will all come true.
Happiness, good health and peace for
yours, for mine and you.
