We wish you a Happy New Year!
Local MPs and the mayor of Wokingham borough bring you their reflections and thoughts for the next 12 months … here’s to 2018!
Cllr Rob Stanton, the Mayor of Wokingham Borough
FOLLOWING the Christmas festivities which I hope you all enjoyed together with your families and loved ones, it is now time to look forward to the New Year.
However, it is right to reflect on one very special event we attended which was the Annual Christmas Carol Concert when we gathered hundreds of children together to sing carols with the Berkshire Maestros the young people’s orchestra in Berkshire.
The occasion was simply wonderful and as a bonus we collected substantial monies for our charities.
With the New Year now upon us we need to look forward to new opportunities in Wokingham and a key event will be the completion of our new town centre in the autumn of 2018.
We have been waiting a long time for this development but once completed will put the town back at the top where we all want it to be.
We have more exciting events to look forward to including further new school development giving even more opportunities to our young people.
Wokingham is often voted one of the best places to live in England much enhanced by its excellent country parks, and leisure facilities that we continue to develop.
The town is in an exciting phase of development which will in time make it even better place to live and work.
I will continue to support our excellent charities which do so much good work for our older people and those less fortunate.
We really do have some of the best charities in Wokingham.
I will continue to raise as much money as I can in support of the Mayor’s charity which this year is cancer aftercare, a need that I believe in with some passion.
I wish you all happiness and success for the New Year
