WHERE THE STREETS HAVE NO SHAME

-

Gangs of boozed- up teenagers are running amok in Wishaw town centre.

The young yobs are tormenting families around the Glen Road area with some residents saying they’re now living in “terror”.

The trouble-makers, a mix of male and female and all believed to be aged under 16, have been hanging around Belhaven Park before prowling the nearby streets.

One woman, who didn’t wish to be named for fear of reprisals, said: “We are being totally tormented.

“They constantly throw stuff at our windows and have recently nicked our wheelie bin.

“They also shout outside the house and lie drunk on my car.

“It’s constant, especially at the

weekends. This is clearly a group of kids who have nothing better to do with their time, but it has to stop. “Enough is enough. “We have only stayed here for a few years and up until this started we liked where we lived. Now we are desperate to move. We don’t want to put up with this anymore. It’s not fair.”

Fellow resident Roma Mcardie said she reached the end of her tether last weekend when the delinquents stole her three wheelie bins, which is costing her around £150 to replace.

Roma said: “It’s absolutely ridiculous and very selfish. We are the ones who will have to pay to replace the bins.

“I’ve been told they steal them to set them on fire so they can get high from the fumes.”

The wing mirrors of Roma’s car have also been pulled off several times and she has had her front windows and door covered in silly string.

In one incident just before Christmas, the windows of a house in Glen Road were smashed with the glass shattering near to a sleeping baby.

Sgt Ian Scott from the Local Problem Solving Team (LPST) said:” There’s been 11 calls to Glen Road since November 1 last year for various things including two calls regarding the theft of wheelie bins, vandalism to a window and anti-social behaviour (quad bike in the park).

“Local youths were spoken to on several occasions when police attended in the area.

“I’ve no doubt that Glen Road is being used by youths going to and from the wooded area at the golf course, Beltane Park, Craigneuk and Coltness.

“Unfortunately there have been occasions where local residents have been affected by antisocial behaviour. LPST officers Steven Brown and David Telfer and myself are aware and will continue to provide foot and cycle patrols in the area.

“I’d encourage any residents with concerns to report the circumstances to Police Scotland via 101 for non emergency calls or contact us on the Police Scotland internet site.” shot at nearby Motherwell offices.

“Latimer Crescent is a fictional suburban street so we chose a location which could reflect that, and could also accommodate filming for a week with cast and crew there.

“The neighbours were very welcoming and the street looks perfect on screen.”

North Lanarkshire Council posted on Facebook: “Check out how the basement of our Civic Centre was turned into a hospital to film tonight’s episode of Two Doors Down.

“Amazing skills of a BBC set designer!”
