RANGERS 0 MOTHERWELL 2 DANCING IN THE DARK

Celtic showdown is big boost for the‘Well fans

- Michael Temlett

Stephen Robinson believes the dark days at Fir Park make their Hampden showdown with Celtic even sweeter.

And the Motherwell boss (pictured, right) believes his squad have what it takes to shock Scottish football again by being the first team to beat Brendan Rodgers’ side domestically.

The Hoops are on a 60- game unbeaten run and Robinson would love nothing more than to dethrone the current treble winners.

After Louis Moult’s double sealed their spot in the final, the Well gaffer believes it shows exactly why the club didn’t sell their star striker in the summer.

He said: “It would be nice to beat them. Someone has to beat them. Why not us?

“I am delighted for everyone involved at the football club.

“There have been dark days at this club and people have struggled and it is just nice to repay the faith they have in me.

“I am chuffed to bits to be associated with that team.

“When you’ve got Louis Moult and Ryan Bowman up front who give everything with you – and a quality finish for the second – then I think we got everything we deserved.

“The money that people were putting in didn’t justify us selling Louis in the summer.

“I have to give credit to the board and Alan Burrows for

standing firm because as a smaller club it’s easier to crumble.

“We knew what value he would bring to us and I think we’ve got our just rewards.”

Despite a roaring start to the season with Well sitting in fourth as well as being in the League Cup final, Robinson insists there is only one aim for his players.

He said:“First and foremost we have to stay up.

“We have to remember where we are and what we are.

“We’re a club who’s building and getting stronger and we’ve got good solid foundations now.

“We know we must stay in this division though and everything else is a bonus. We’ve started well and we’ve had a good run but we can’t drop our standards or that will change very quickly.”
