£55,000 of gold jewellery nicked
Police appeal to help nab raiders
Police were this week hunting raiders after they stole £55,000 of Asian gold jewellery from two homes last week.
Thieves made off the with the haul while the occupiers weren’t at home.
They targeted properties in Harthill’s Westcraigs Road and Miller Street on Wednesday, January 18, between 7am and 6pm.
Constable Craig Jeffrey, from the Lanarkshire Divison’s housebreaking unit, said: “During the house breakin at Westcraigs Road, the jewellery stolen was valued at over £50,000 and is described as being distinctive, 24-carat Asian gold.
“A quantity of jewellery, including a very distinctive pocket watch with a chain and butterfly charm attached, and a silver Swarovski crystals necklace with a tree pendant, was stolen from the house in Miller Street.
“The jewellery stolen from this house is believed to be worth around £5000.
“Obviously these items, although worth a lot of money, had extremely high sentimental value to the owners and I urge anyone who has any information that could assist in tracking down the person or persons responsible to contact police.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or, alternatively, telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, where calls are free, confidential, and the caller’s anonymity can be maintained.
