Citroën confirms major expansion into campervans
Citroën has confirmed that it is to launch its own campervan, in a sector where Ford, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen already compete. The news came as it revealed its one-off Type Holidays campervan at the Düsseldorf Caravan Salon. With a definite nod to the famous H-van (made from 1947 until 81), the Type Holidays is derived from the Citroën SpaceTourer and comes with a pop-up roof, a bench seat that converts into a bed, a side kitchen and a fold-down table.
“The unique Type Holidays model heralds Citroën’s move to strengthen its presence in the converted campervan market,” said a spokesperson. “The Citroën brand will introduce a dedicated range of campervans that will be sold by the Citroën network, the details of which will be unveiled in the coming months.”
It added that the interior layout of the Type Holidays campervan will soon be available as part of the Citroën range.
Citroën said that it decided to highlight its heritage by presenting the H-van-inspired SpaceTourer camper, which is based on the work of Italian coachbuilder, Caselani, and added that it has already made several forays into campervan territory with concept vehicles such as the
Hyphen, Rip Curl, and Citroënist.
“The brand is now looking to build on this success by expanding its business in the fast-growing campervan market,” it said. “The one-off Type Holidays camper heralds a more powerful commitment from the brand through a comprehensive offering that will be available as part of the Citroën range.”
