Agricultural shows are cancelled

-

ANOTHER two agricultural shows in the South West have joined the growing list of cancellations for 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Organisers of the Yealmpton Show and Camelford Show said that continued uncertainties and restrictions caused by Covid-19 had forced them to cancel this year’s events.

A further blow for the traditional summer calendar of one-day agricultural shows, the news comes on the back of the Liskeard Show, Dunster Show and Holsworthy & Stratton Show all recently announcing plans to return again in 2022.

The Yealmpton Show, popular with city and country folk alike, had been set to host its 2021 event on Wednesday, July 28 at Kitley Lawns near Plymouth.

Announcing the cancellation in an online statement, the directors of the Yealmpton Show said the health and safety of all visitors, volunteers, stewards, traders and exhibitors was their “foremost consideration”.

“We were hoping we would be able to run but, although recent news about the easing of restrictions is much more positive, we feel there are too many uncertainties around large events with many concerns not able to be clarified until nearer the date,” it adds.

“We are all deeply disappointed to have made this decision. We know that for so many, the Yealmpton Show is a very special day in the year. However, to put on such a high quality event for around 9,000 people requires many months of planning, organisation and financial outlay.”
