Argyle boss calls on fans to stand by troubled side

Defeat at Crewe was the sixth in a row as Pilgrims’ slide down the table continues

RYAN Lowe is taking heart from the support that he has around him at Plymouth Argyle as he comes under fire from disgruntled fans after a dreadful run of results.

The Pilgrims’ boss pointed to the backing of owner/chairman Simon Hallett and chief executive officer Andrew Parkinson.

Lowe believes all the players are behind him but ‘they are just not giving us enough at the moment’.

Argyle slipped to a sixth successive League One defeat when they lost 2-1 at Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night.

It is their worst run since 2011 when, with the club in administration, they were beaten in eight consecutive matches and it culminated in the sacking of Peter Reid.

Lowe led Argyle to promotion from League Two last season but now some of the Green Army are calling for a change of manager.

The 42-year-old has called on the fans to ‘Stick with us’ and will discuss ways how he can strengthen his squad in January with the club’s board of directors.

Lowe said: “I have got good people around me. I don’t read the stuff (criticism on social media). I have got a good CEO and a good chairman.

“Listen, I’m not stupid. If you keep losing games of football something might have to materialise.

“I’m not even thinking about that. What I’m thinking about is that I have got good people behind me.

“The chairman, the board of directors, my CEO, Neil (Dewsnip, Argyle’s director of football and my staff.

“All the players are behind me but they are just not giving us enough at the moment.

“I have to take it on the chin. It’s new to me. I’m speaking to other managers on a regular basis and they are telling me how tough it is, and how it works.

“When you come out shining it will make me a better person and make me a better manager.”

Lowe continued: “One thing I will say is remember where we have come from. This club was rock bottom last season. We have got it back to League One and now we are on good solid ground.

“We have got everything from the bottom right the way up to the top - the foundations - to make this a stable Championship club in five years.

“Yeah, okay we haven’t won many games of late. We know that, we are not hiding behind it.

“We know we are in a bad run of form, but that can easily change with a bit of quality. I feel we have still got enough quality in there (the dressing room) to do that.”

Argyle, who have dropped to 19th in League One, will be desperate to return to winning ways when they play MK Dons in front of 2,000 supporters at Home Park on Saturday.

Lowe said: “The fans are probably feeling it at the moment but one thing I can say is ‘Stick with us, we know what we are doing, we know what we are about’.

“It will be great when they are there Saturday to roar us on hopefully, like Crewe’s fans did when we scored and they just started singing and roared them on.”

He added: “We may have to go into the transfer market as well in January now because we feel maybe one or two are not performing.

“I will speak to the directors on that and see about people going out and people coming in.”
