Stadium gets ready for height of fun

THE new high-adrenaline zip wire attraction at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium is one step closer to opening.

A platform has been constructed on top of one of the stadium’s giant masts.

It comes after a spokesman for the stadium confirmed in January that the platform is part of the Welsh Rugby Union attraction, called Scale, which is due to open to the public this spring.

The new aerial feature promises to offer “unprecedented views of the Cardiff skyline as you scale, zip line, and drop from the iconic building”.

Visitors will be able to do a roof walk of the stadium, take a zip wire between its masts, and abseil down to the ground.

A spokesman for the stadium confirmed this platform is part of the Welsh Rugby Union attraction, called Scale.

Scale comprises three parts. The first segment is “the climb”, in which thrill-seekers will ascend 15 flights of stairs to the stadium’s rooftop.

They can walk across the roof’s edge and take in a bird’s-eye view of the pitch and 75,000-seater stadium below. The second part is “the zip wire”, which involves scaling the stadium’s mast and zooming through the air on a zip wire.

And in third and final section, “the drop”, visitors will abseil back to the ground.

According to Scale’s website, people can choose whether they just complete the climb or add on the other elements individually or together.

It will cost £89 to do all three adventures.

The platform seen above is the roof walk of “the climb” segment, the stadium spokesman said.

It juts out over the River Taff and towers 35m above it. Also spotted was a sign with the words “drop zone”.

Welsh construction company Pro Steel starting working on Scale last August.

A definitive opening date has not been confirmed yet but the stadium spokesman confirmed the attraction is still on track to open this spring.

Aerial adventure company Wire & Sky was commissioned by the WRU to build the attraction.

The company has worked on similar projects at Wembley Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Cutty Sark, and Liverpool FC’s Anfield.
