Gatland family’s joy as daughter gets engaged

WALES will always hold a special place in the hearts of Warren Gatland’s family, with the head coach due to bow out of the role after the World Cup after 12 years at the helm.

But now it will do so for another very special reason.

For Gatland’s daughter, Gabby, has revealed that she and her partner, Sam, got engaged at the weekend.

Footage filmed at Hensol Castle Park shows Sam leading a blindfolded Gabby to the venue’s lake, before the surroundings are unveiled and he gets down on one knee to pop the question.

Sharing footage of the special moment on Instagram, Gabby wrote: “On the 17-03-19 my best friend got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

“No words can describe how happy I am that I get to spend the rest of my life with you Sam. I swear I couldn’t love you more than I do right now, and yet I know I will tomorrow. Here’s to forever babe.”

So as well as the Grand Slam postmatch party, the Gatland family had another incredibly special reason to celebrate – with the proposal coming just a day after Wales’ Grand Slam.

Speaking at the Cardiff Bay Grand Slam celebrations, Gatland revealed he was to return to New Zealand this week after his wife Trudi flew back on Monday.

“I’m heading back [...] for a couple of weeks to get away. But thank you so much. It’s been so special.”
