Dame Kelly put through her paces at Booty Camp

-

IT’S not every day you see a double gold medallist doing squats in a Cardiff park.

But that’s exactly what happened, when Dame Kelly Holmes laced up her running shoes to train with a group of ladies at Llandaff Fields on Saturday.

As part of her “Join in June” campaign, the retired Olympian went along to Booty Camp Cardiff – a ladies-only health and fitness group that focuses on teamwork, community camaraderie and fun.

As well as taking part in a Parkrun, Dame Kelly also tried her hand at some squats, sit-ups, jumping jacks and frog jumps as part of the bootcamp routine.

“The idea really was me going around to meet people and just joining in,” Dame Kelly said. “People posted some shout-outs [online], so we had a look through and thought this looked really cool – so, here I am! I wanted to get out of the south-east and came to Cardiff. It’s brilliant!”

She added: “For me, yes I am an exOlympic champion and all of that, but, what’s more important to me is people feeling good about themselves – both, mentally and physically. It doesn’t matter your ability, age, weight, height – I don’t care. You’ve just got to think about yourself and everyone’s got to make that effort and commitment to do it. So for me, it’s about motivating people just to better themselves, feel good about themselves and keep active, because it is important. I just love joining in with people and having fun!”
