Man found dead after girlfriend’s baby not his – inquest

-

A “LOVING” bar worker was found dead in woodland after being “destroyed” when he found out his girlfriend was pregnant by another man, an inquest heard.

The body of Lee Webb, 28, of Canton in Cardiff, was found in Leckwith Woods on October 23 last year.

An inquest at Cardiff Coroner’s Court heard that about a week before Mr Webb discovered his girlfriend was pregnant by another man.

A statement by Mr Webb’s sister, Sarah, read to the court, said: “I was not aware of any illness and him suffering from any mental health issues.

“The last time I spoke to him he appeared to be upset about his relationship but as happy as he could be.

“I’m aware he had been having problems with his girlfriend. She said she was suffering from anxiety and he was trying to help her. He found out she had cheated on him and was pregnant. He was devastated by this news.

“The Friday before he went missing he found out he was not the father.”

Mr Webb, from Canton, worked behind the bar at the Goat Major opposite Cardiff Castle.

The inquest heard family and friends became concerned after Mr Webb did not show up to work on the Thursday and Friday before he was found.

Dr Anuary Joshi, who performed a post-mortem examination on Mr Webb, said the cause of death was external compression to the neck.

A toxicology report found no evidence of alcohol or drugs.

Coroner Phillip Spinney said: “He [Mr Webb] had been low in mood in the period leading up to his death due to his relationship difficulties. There was no note or any other indication he was going to take his own life.”

Mr Spinney said there was insufficient evidence Mr Webb intended to take his own life and recorded a narrative conclusion.
